Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (North America)

stinkyx

@sleepinglion IKR...like, I just got a New 3DS and there hasn't been a new SNES VC game on it since...DECEMBER (basically 5 months ago)!? It's not like the Big N doesn't have TONS of first-party games to choose from (where licensing isn't an issue). I just don't understand what the hold-up is...

Re: Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters Will Spook the North American Market This Fall

stinkyx

@CaptainRainbow Give the demo a try! Beware, tho...you may reeeally not like the battle system at first (I sure didn't) since you're not directly controlling the yo-kai (except to do special moves). Since each character has a different specialty (attacking, healing, blocking, buffs and de-buffs), your job during a battle is to send out the right yo-kai at the right time. If there's a downside, it's that the game is somewhat easy (especially if you do any grinding).

Much different than your standard RPG and definitely recommended!

Re: Yo-Kai Watch Wibble Wobble Getting European Release Ahead of IP's 3DS Sequel

stinkyx

This is one of the only mobile games I would consider good. HONESTLY, TRY IT OUT GUYS. I've poured dozens of hours into it and never spent a dime. In fact, it's what got me into Yo-Kai Watch in the first place.

You basically have to drag the little wib-wobs together to make bigger ones, and then pop them to attack and also power up your Yo-Kai. When a Yo-Kai is fully powered, it can unleash its special attack, which deals either damage, a buff, a de-buff, or healing. It ends up being a great challenge to power-up your characters and use them at the right time during a battle.

Plus, it's free-to-play, so WHY NOT TRY IT.

Re: Video: How Well Does Snake Pass Run on Nintendo Switch?

stinkyx

@Dakt It seems like no matter how much horsepower you give developers, many of them are always gonna push the limits more than they should and end up with a game that doesn't run very well.

In this case, Snake Pass is also a PC game, and the Unreal 4 engine doesn't run very well on lower-powered PCs to begin with, so I'm not surprised it has to be scaled down significantly for the Switch. I'm hoping to learn the Unreal 4 engine and I'm dreaming of making a little eShop game in the future (prioritizing 60 FPS and 720p over fancy graphics effects).

Re: Video: Take an Extended Look at Switch Exclusive Seasons of Heaven

stinkyx

Personally, I'm not interested in this game at all (especially seeing how unpolished it is in the video above), but I am however interested in ANY game that shows actual Switch footage. Honestly, I HIGHLY doubt that this game would be the first real extended footage we'd see of a Switch game. Booooo!!!

Re: Talking Point: The Leaps and Falls of Super Mario Run's Launch

stinkyx

The Pocket Gamer mock-ups are spot on! I hope Nintendo NEVER stoops to those levels.

But I have to admit that I didn't want to plop out $10 for the full-version...I'm just not used to spending more than $5 for an iOS game, especially a runner. I think Nintendo should've at least sold the levels in segments (i.e. $2 per world or something).

Re: Eurogamer Report Suggests Nintendo Switch GPU Runs 60 Percent Slower When Undocked

stinkyx

@Moshugan I agree, although I'm sure a good number of people don't have an X1 or a PS4. I think it's great that Nintendo continues to fill its own niche instead of going toe-to-toe with the big dogs, and that they value innovation and preservation of their own IPs instead of looking at market data and following trends to make the most profit.

Personally, I love my PS4, but I simply don't have the time to sit at home and play ANYTHING, so lately I've been all about the handhelds. I think the Switch is everything the Wii U shoulda been and I can't wait to pick one up, if only for the first party titles.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Gifts For The Holiday Season (US Edition)

stinkyx

@ALinkttPresent I've mostly ignored Nintendo for the last four years (!) and am just now getting back into their games. I just felt a lot of their games were "more of the same" (which is how I feel now about a lot of my PS4 and PC games). I really want a Wii U to catch up on SM3DW, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad, Splatoon, etc...but I'm hoping most of those will be ported to the Switch, since paying more than $100 for a console on its way out just doesn't sound like a good idea.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Gifts For The Holiday Season (US Edition)

stinkyx

@ALinkttPresent After waiting all this time to play Super Mario 3D Land...I'm a little disappointed! I like to explore, so the time limit is more of an issue than I expected. And I don't like having to hold "Y" to run (like in the 2D games) instead of "Y" being an attack button. I guess I was expecting it to be more like the 3D Mario games, and not a 2D Mario game in 3D (even though it was always marketed as the latter). The tanooki suit, graphics, and music keep me going back though. Have you played it??

Re: Nintendo Marks Sonic's 25th Birthday With Digital Sale In North America

stinkyx

@Blue_Blur @luchacomics I actually really like Sonic Boom on 3DS, although the levels are a bit on the long side. The cartoon tie-in is pretty funny too. Definitely try the demo!

Personally, I never liked the original games, and still don't...they just seem very haphazard. I always give them a try periodically, though. It was actually the Sonic Advance games for GBA that first got me hooked...unfortunately, those aren't available!

Re: Fangs For The Memories Castlevania, You're Now 30 Years Old

stinkyx

I personally looooved the Lords of Shadow reboot, namely because it channels Super Castlevania IV (my favorite in the series) with its decidedly darker and more unsettling atmosphere.

The first time I played Super Castlevania IV, tho, I was so freaked out by the intro cutscene and the music in the game that I literally buried the cartridge in the back of my closet. I kept having nightmares about it for years until I dug it out in 4th grade and played it to completion. Needless to say, I conquered my fears AND ended up loving it!

Re: Yo-Kai Watch 2 is Now Available to Pre-Load in North America

stinkyx

@InklingOrange The third game actually has a completely different system, and there's also a beat-'em-up spin-off called Yo Kai Busters. Personally, I didn't like the battle system either, but I gave the demo another chance and started to enjoy it.

The biggest problem with the demo is that the Soultimate Move meter always fills up before every battle, which means you can just spam special attacks and easily wipe the enemies out. In the full game, you refill your meter over time, so you have to actually use strategy to stay alive (i.e. rotating Yo-Kai in and out, healing, targeting specific enemies before they can use Soultimate moves, and Purifying when you get debuffed). It's actually a lot of fun. I recommend playing the demo without using the Soultimate moves very often to get a better idea of what the actual game is like.

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

stinkyx

@MegaMari0 I know they're a business and they need to make money but video games are art to a large degree, and I hope this doesn't mark a shift toward trashy, free-to-play iOS games. Instead, I hope it can finance their console-side efforts.

Worst case is they turn into Konami, which has almost completely abandoned lots of beloved franchises in favor of gambling machines (ugh...that one hits me hard).

Re: Demo Of Yo-Kai Watch 2 Arrives On The North American eShop Soon

stinkyx

@RatKing64 That's how I felt too, and even after playing the actual game for a couple hours. I hear playing against bosses is mainly when you have to actually use strategy. It'll be interesting to see if the battle system has changed much, although from what I've seen it doesn't appear so.

I actually like the battle system in the iOS phone game Yo-Kai Wibble Wobble better...in that game, you play a crazier version of "match 3" (super fast, super fun) to power up each of your Yo-Kai, and then you tap the powered-up Yo-Kai to use their special moves (including attacks, buffs/de-buffs, and healing). Level up, unlock moves, etc. Probably my favorite time-killer on iOS.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Favourite Super NES Games?

stinkyx

Super Castlevania IV was one of the first games my parents got me and I buried in it the far back of my closet, I was so scared of it. Had nightmares about it periodically until I dug it out and beat it years later. Conquered my fear AND I fell in love with its whippity goodness. Amazing game!

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th May (North America)

stinkyx

@invictus4000 My thoughts exactly! Except $40 is still a little steep for a "sale"...I forgot that this game launched at a whopping $50! I think $30 is the sweet spot for this game...I know it'll be amazing and well worth it based on their pedigree...I'm just not a big fan of the chibi style, especially when it's done with 3D models!
