Re: UK Nintendo Switch Sales Are Off To An Impressive Start In 2020

stinkyx

Hmmm, I WONDER WHY.

I still think it was reeeeeally messed up that Animal Crossing New Horizons makes you share a save state. I know one couple that bought a second Switch this year so both of them could have separate islands, but I hate thinking about all the families that had to share islands, or otherwise cough up a devastating $500 for a new Switch on the resell market (multiplied by the number of kids you have, and considering you haven't been laid-off AND have enough expendable savings). I can't imagine being a kid these days and having to share an island with my siblings...it's bad enough sharing a console! All of this over not having a separate save file. For shame!

Re: Min Min Revealed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next Fighter

@ninoishi Pokemon Trainer has some POC/non-white alternate skins, and so does the Villager and Inkling. Granted, that's not nearly enough, but it's out there.

In the end, it's kinda sad. I've seen kids of color playing as white characters in plenty of games where there's no choice, and watching them flip through the character select screen indecisively kinda kicks you in the feels. I'm mixed-race, and I know playing as a character who looks like you isn't everything, but it's definitely not trivial.

Re: Nintendo's Wii Is Still A Hit In Care Homes 13 Years Later

stinkyx

To date, there's still nothing like Wii Sports on Switch, so...yeah.

Nintendo should create a "mini" version and sell it in perpetuity. Not doing so is basically the equivalent of board game companies saying, "Okay, Monopoly/Clue/Life/etc was a success, but we're stopping production forever and moving onto new board games! If you want a copy, go see the second-hand market and pay hundreds of dollars!"

Re: Video: Check Out The Friendship Finishing Moves Coming Soon To Mortal Kombat 11

@WallyWest Yeah, it's really shocking how insane people have gotten over that character. And with how entitled people seem to be these days, it's resulted in a lot of swearing and borderline threatening language directed toward Ed Boon specifically. These idiots are ruining it for the rest of us!

If I were Ed Boon, I'd definitely never put Mileena in the game. Or if I did, I'd make her brainwashed by Kronika and wearing an outfit that covers her skin from head-to-toe to really dig at the people who also complain about the game being "woke" (lol) and are expecting Mileena to be her usual sexualized self.

@Chibi_Manny I wouldn’t blame the nursing home necessarily. Family members of other patients could’ve also transmitted the virus during a visit. However it ended up there, the fact that these people are in constant contact with staff and that there are sometimes no overt symptoms of the virus at first means that spreading it once it gets in is easy, unfortunately. Same goes for hospitals, prisons, and other kinds of shelters!

Re: Poll: Has Your Family Bought A Second Switch To Play Animal Crossing: New Horizons 'Properly'?

stinkyx

I can’t believe how many people here are out of touch with reality here. How can you expect a family under quarantine with other expenses to just go out and buy more Switches? Furthermore, who the heck wants to share an island in this game, where someone else could easily do a bunch of things completely at odds with what you want, and complete key game moments? Think about it. I grew up with two siblings and we fought over games that even had their own separate savestates...I can’t imagine being forced to share an island, especially when there doesn’t seem to be any reason not to have multiple.

I think this is a scumbag move and totally get all the 0/10 ratings. Especially since my wife and I had to go out and buy groceries for a needy family yesterday. Families have other things to worry about right now, and I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a freakin’ separate save file!

Re: Looks Like Netflix's Resident Evil Series Won't Be Set In Raccoon City

I visit a handful of video game news websites regularly, and I see “old” stories being posted all the time. I think it’s fine, so long as all the important stories get covered eventually. Game Informer, for example, has lots of exclusive features but regularly posts about stuff a week or two later, or sometimes not at all, so...I’d say NL does a great job!

Re: Random: Addicted To Fortnite? Try Playing Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Says Psychologist

stinkyx

@FaroreAbhorsen I never played any of the Xenoblade games, although I reeeally want to (especially Chronicles). The only thing stopping me is time...I can’t fit an 60+ hr RPG into my schedule! I can usually only get around 6-8 hours of gaming stretched over a week, so when I say I spent 8 hours with Breath of the Wild, that’s a lot of my time, considering I also have a deep backlog of other equally esteemed games. In the end, BotW just wasn’t the “best” at anything it did, and the sum of its parts didn’t make it much more than that, IMHO. It’s not the prettiest game, so if I wanted to relax and enjoy the scenery, I’d go elsewhere. Combat isn’t very deep, weapons are expendable to the point of weapons having no value, and environmental puzzles are less compelling to complete as a result. I did my research and kinda figured this is how I’d react to the game, but I wanted to give it a shot. Perhaps now is just not the time...in fact, I initially hated ALL of the games I would now consider my top 5, so it’s just on the backburner for now. I appreciate Nintendo trying new things with the series, but I don’t think BotW is quite there yet...

Re: Random: Addicted To Fortnite? Try Playing Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Says Psychologist

@NESlover85 Sounds like you’ve NEVER played a free game before. In-game purchases are famously a rip-off, the most basic example being loot boxes full of lazy re-colored skins that look like garbage (i.e. Apex Legends) where you can easily spend $10 (or $20, or $30...) and get nothing.

Fortnite, on the other hand, has a $10 battle pass that gives you 8+ skins that are actually good looking with 2-3 variations each, a bunch of emotes and weapon skins, plus enough in-game money to buy the next season’s pass (so technically you can get every season’s battle pass and all skins therein off of your initial $10 purchase). The catch is that you have to complete a bunch of in-game challenges, but you get 4-5 months to do it, and it only took me 30 hours.

Re: Random: Addicted To Fortnite? Try Playing Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Says Psychologist

stinkyx

After wanting BotW for two years and then finally playing it, I personally didn’t like it. The weapons constantly breaking and vast distances between destinations populated by the same enemy stakeouts made for an admittedly repetitive and boring experience, despite my best efforts to deny it. I ended up stopping 8 hours in. As it stands, I think Dragon’s Dogma, Skyrim, and Dark Souls are more compelling experiences on the Switch.

Fortnite rocks, btw. You can get soooo much value for the $10 season pass it’s insane...definitely the most generous free game I’ve ever played, period. The $15 skins are a rip-off, but still a much, MUCH better value than loot boxes (looking at you, Overwatch). It’s also the most relaxing multiplayer shooter I’ve ever played in solo mode, so I’m surprised to hear that it’s linked to so many life-ruining stats, lol. This comes from someone who’s whaled out on other F2P games and been horribly addicted to Call of Duty.

Re: More Than 200 Old Pokémon Are Being Added To Sword And Shield's National Dex

stinkyx

It doesn’t matter how many Pokemon are in these games, the core gameplay is so slow and played-out that it’s a chore to play! Wish I still liked these kinds of grindy, traditional RPGs, but I don’t think it’s wrong to ask them to try something new.

The next Pokemon game should be a spin-off with a more limited, focused roster and experimental gameplay. That won’t happen, but I can dream...

Re: Review: Trover Saves The Universe - You Don't Have To Love Rick & Morty, But It Helps

stinkyx

@personauser93 Ditto, lol. The people I know who love this show are also the same variety who think telling the same 9/11 and Holocaust jokes over and over again ISNT annoying, who post edgy mc-edgelord memes, draw upside crosses and swastikas everywhere, and will also hit on your girlfriend behind your back. Another case where the fan base kills the show’s appeal for me, in my experience.

I liked Justin Roiland’s work in LawBreakers tho.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 30 Switch eShop Games Of November 2019 (North America)

stinkyx

@Pod LOL. I used to hate Fortnite soooo much but it’s actually a really good game (which I would NEVER have expected myself to say). Never really played it until this latest season, but now I have 50+ hours in it, lol. Super balanced and the fort-building actually makes the game better (I always thought it should be removed) and is worth learning to do.

It’s also got the best Battle Pass I’ve ever seen for $10, since not only can you unlock all the skins in like 30 hours, but the skins are actually good (as opposed to pallet swapped trash in other games), and if you complete the pass (which presently you have until February to do), you’ll get enough in game money to buy the next season’s pass (so you can play off of that $10 forever, technically).

TL;DR Great game, actually. Highly recommended.

Re: Bomberman-Inspired Multiplayer Game Ponpu Targeting A 2020 Switch Release

stinkyx

@SmaggTheSmug I like the idea of a crow, I just think design-wise it needs revision...it’s a cool (albeit plain-looking) crow, but there’s no connection to the bomb aspect. the crows spit out bombs? How? It’s just really disconnected. Maybe the “bombs” should be eggs instead? Idk. I just feel there’s a opportunity there to do something more interesting!

Re: Bomberman-Inspired Multiplayer Game Ponpu Targeting A 2020 Switch Release

stinkyx

I think they shoulda used a different character than a bird. At a glance, I would NEVER have guessed this is Bomberman inspired. The bird should at least be holding a bomb! And there should be some tag line or subtitle that’s more descriptive of the game. Like “Ponpu: Bomb Bird Brawl.” I also think that the black-and-white color scheme seems to make reading the battlefield more difficult...maybe add more color, to distinguish objects from the background at least. I dunno...Just my 2-cents!

Re: Metacritic Takes Action Against Disgruntled Gamers Who Review-Bombed Astral Chain

@mist I think that the biggest issue with free speech on the internet is anonymity, where you can say whatever you want and never have to be accountable for it. The whole “internet tough guy” thing where you talk big but would dare trash someone to their face in real life. If there was some way for people to be responsible for being scumbags, then I think we’d see a lot less of it.

Re: The Dinosaur Hunter Returns To Switch Next Week In Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil

stinkyx

@Ralek85 The brand new Turok game that just came out on PC last week is total trash (soooo bad), and beyond that I've definitely lost hope of another proper sequel any time soon. However, the PC indie scene right now has a lot of bases covered when it comes to spiritual successors to older franchises. New games like Ion Fury, Dusk, Amid Evil, etc. Nothing yet that pays homage to Turok (or half of those franchises you mentioned), but hopefully it should be one day soon. Me and a buddy were personally working on a Turok successor several years ago (i.e. full game mapped out, but we only made one enemy, and one gun), but then that got buried by life. Gah!! Anyway...hopefully it's only a matter of time before someone else makes one!
