Re: The Dinosaur Hunter Returns To Switch Next Week In Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil

@BlueOcean On the PC version, you can adjust blood levels and camera sway, as well as the sensitivity and deadzone of a controller. Basically, there’s a ton of options. Not sure how much of that the console versions will contain.

Specifically, control is good, a little floaty as you might expect from an old game, but lightyears beyond the original! For the camera, it doesn’t really sway that much in the original, and by default the remaster is closer to this (especially if you’re not zipping around). Here’s another video I took a long time ago of the original game, for reference! https://youtu.be/rxHmJHqaZr8

@Ralek85 Maybe it’s because there hasn’t been a new game since, but I’ve grown to really like Turok (2008) in recent years. Played it again and actually found the shooting really satisfying, namely the ability to dual-wield two different weapons. Also learned to like the dialog (“I’m tired for some pancakes”...trash, but still, lol).

@BlueOcean Honestly I would just recommend you start with Turok 2 only. The first game desperately needs the ledge-grab feature, since there are a TON of jumping puzzles (whereas Turok 2 only has a handful) and one miss will have you starting over or losing a precious life. And yeah, getting lost is mitigated big time in the second thanks to waypoints, which the first game remaster also lacks currently.

Overall, I feel like nostalgia carries the first game a lot more than the second. Just my opinion!

@FullMetalWesker Turok 1 and 2 are waaay different! And if the remaster of Turok 2 is the same as on PC/X1, then it’s closer to DOOM 2016 than Turok 1, imho. First game with a weapon wheel, one of the first games with dismemberment, area-specific damage, alternate ammo, and just waaay better graphics and soundtrack than Turok 1. They’re both classics, but the Turok 2 remaster is just too good. They even added waypoints, which eliminates the biggest problem that game has: getting horribly, horribly lost. Plus a ledge-grab that makes the annoying jumping parts much less frustrating. Oh yeah, and they added blood splatter decals that never go away (on the PC version at least). Wish the Turok 1 remaster had those features added too...

Sorry for rambling. But no, this won’t make the original redundant...they’re both great games that offer different experiences.

Re: Yo-Kai Watch Popularity Declines Sharply Against Steady Ol' Pokémon

The gameplay in Yokai Watch is actually a lot like Final Fantasy XIII, IMHO, which I personally loooove but can see why people might not like. That kinda reflex/timing-based gameplay where WHEN you block, heal, and attack is more important than the actual attack/ability used.

The games and anime are better than Pokémon, IMHO, especially considering how formulaic Pokémon still is. I have to say that the character designs in general are complete garbage by comparison, however.

Re: Review: The Alliance Alive (3DS)

@Oat Ah, thanks! I guess I'll spend a little more time with the demos of each before I jump into one or the other. And since you brought up music, I'm a big fan of Masashi Hamauzu's work so that's the main reason I'm most interested in these games!

Re: Review: The Alliance Alive (3DS)

@Oat What do you think about the "popping-in" environments of The Legend of Legacy? That's the main thing I couldn't swallow in the demo...it was just weird to see everything materialize as I went along (and then disappear), not to mention that I mostly looked at the map screen. That part seemed really dumb and total busywork getting the map to be 100% discovered.

Other than that, I'm tempted to pick Legend of Legacy up at it's new $20 price on the eShop...

Re: The Games Industry Reacts To The White House's Violent Games Showreel

If the government ever took away my violent video games, I'd do the next best thing...get some real guns!

Obviously I'm less likely to do anything if I owned a bunch of guns and was proficient at using them. Yes...obviously the problem is alternatively playing violent video games on my couch every now and again. /s

Re: Lost N64 Title 40 Winks Is Resurrected Thanks To Kickstarter

Anyone else remember the Nintendo Power feature on this game? As a kid, I wanted to play this, and I didn't realize until a decade and a half later that this game never actually came to the N64 haha.

Even tho I just hooked up my N64 the other day as a permanent feature in my living room, I'm personally not interested in this one. I mean, if I was reeeally interested, I woulda picked it up on PS1 long before!

...................$50 for Radiant Historia?! Geez, what happened to $40 for the normal price of 3DS games (not to mention that this isn't even a remake, just a re-release with extra content for a game over SEVEN YEARS OLD)?!

Hopefully SMT Strange Journey will be a bit more reasonable.

Re: Valve's Gabe Newell Once Met With Nintendo About A "Joint Project"

@Lozzen Yeah, Steam for example has only changed for the worst recently. From lack of quality control in the storefront to the ridiculous profile leveling system (tied to your cards, which are much easier to buy than randomly earn or trade), it all seems geared toward how much money they can scrape from users, pennies at a time.

Re: Feature: Skin Deep With The Exciting World Of Nintendo Tattoos

stinkyx

@JayJ That's my feelings to when it comes to video games in general (not even tattoos, but just outwardly being a gamer)...how it's weird for an adult to like things like Pokemon. How video games still have that childish stigma (even when they're not even kiddie games). But I also think it depends on who you are as a person.

For example, I met two 50 year-old customers in retail who were obsessed with old cartoons that are no longer relevant. One was this dumb fat guy who loved Tom and Jerry, and the other one was an older, well-dressed guy who loved Scooby-Doo. First guy came off as a childish weirdo, and the second as an accomplished, respectable person with a quirky obsession. That second guy is who I want to be.

Anyway, I think I'll get a Pokemon tattoo on my leg, and some new clothes from Calvin Klein to balance it out...

Re: Feature: Skin Deep With The Exciting World Of Nintendo Tattoos

stinkyx

I think the question, "is it socially acceptable to have a video game tattoo?" is an extension of, "is it socially acceptable to be a gamer?"

Personally, I get SUPER embarrassed when people call me a "gamer" and feel like there's still a lot of stigma attached to it. That's the number one reason I haven't gotten a game-related tattoo yet.

Re: Feature: Skin Deep With The Exciting World Of Nintendo Tattoos

stinkyx

LMAO....people worried about what they look like when they're 60. Your wrinkly skin is going to look like trash with or without tattoos! No one wants to see your old body anyway!

As for the "self-mutilation" stuff, that's only if you get tattoos that look like trash, and even then you can always get them covered up. These ones here pretty cool, quality-wise, although just like any other tattoo, I would question some of the content decisions. Like, I didn't know anyone liked Popplio THAT much!

Re: Rumour: A New Perfect Dark Game Is In Development, But Rare Isn't Involved

@LaytonPuzzle27 Ah, thanks! Hmm, yet another reason for me to get a Switch.

Rusty Pup is one of those games I'd never be interested had I not known who Chris Seavor is (for example: I'm not a fan of the art style or design of the main character), but I'm sure it'll be fun (his first solo game, Parashoot Stan, was pretty good IMHO, for an "endless fall-er"-type game).
