@Coversnail It's not that; By keeping the form and functionality (more or less) of the original Switch and not having any big "gimmicks," it probably helped allow Nintendo to invest more on power of the Switch 2 and less on the aforementioned.
This probably allowed them to keep costs at a similar range, while giving us a more powerful but similar hardware. I personally welcome that approach.
@8bit-Man The Wii U issue was that the name felt like an add-on... don't forget the Wii had lots of new control methods and add-ons.
The nun chucks were something new, the steering wheel with the Wiimote in it, WiiFit board etc...so when they launched the Wii U, the launch video still used WiiMotes, WiiFit board etc. and then they even say "the new controller" as opposed to the Wii U controller.
This along with the name and even the console looking somewhat similar, pis what caused confusion.
They should have focused on the WiiU and it's innovative controller and THEN mentioned you can also use your WiiMote etc with the new console.
Regardless, calling the new Switch, Switch 2 is definitely the way to go, especially with todays tech naming scheme. PS5, iPhone 16, Galaxy 25, Pixel 9 etc.
If Nintendo decides to do an upgraded variation of the Switch 2, then it would make sense to called it Super Switch 2 or Switch 2 Pro etc. but not adding a number after the name these days, makes people think or need to check.
Seeing the number after the name will automatically make anyone realize ohh this is a new one! So it will help get them off the shelves quicker and more noticeable, making the Switch 2 an instant purchase.
Though these leaks may be legit (but I doubt it), at this point, Im convinced a lot of the leaks coming out are vendors/people who want to get exposure or clicks.
@The-Chosen-one Been saying for sometime now, that the Mario movie will coincide with the next Switch release, to build momentum off each other.
The timing for a Switch successor can be any time now. Switch was released spring 2017, the Mario movie was currently delayed till spring 2023...obviously this is just my hunch but I think it's plausible.
Also launching with Switch 2, will be Metroid Prime 4 and Breath of the Wild 2 (dual console release) and Mario in some form or another.
@Moistnado Haha dont worry I was calm, didnt mean for my response to sound like an attack at all 🤦♂️🤷♂️ but yes definitely agree with you about lenght of the game, it definitely could have used additional areas and extend the lenght of the game.
In case you haven't already, play it on hard mode, it won't add to the lenght of the game but it definitely is more challenging.
@Moistnado So adding new areas to a completed game, doesnt feel like that's what should have been there when the game released?
...but adding rush/Dread modes of bosses which are an integral part of the story line, as well as difficulty levels that practically make the game impossible to beat, were important to be there when game was released?
My apologies but no for multiple reasons. 1) you learn skills you apply to the bosses, throughout the game 2) part oof the suspense of the game is arriving to those bosses and not knowing what to expect. 3) these additions are what DLC's should be, especially for a genre like Metroid; Where normal gameplay involves time commitment, these new additions give it pick-up-and-play features for anyone who feels like enjoying a "quick round."
@Specter_of-the_OLED I think this just confirms my opinion that Metroid Prime 4 is going to be a cross platform release that is created primarily as a launch title for the Switch successor. It would demonstrate the new consoles improved power and capabilities (4K as well), while the current Switch gets a watered-down port, that would still be impressive, just watered-down.
Think of it this way, if we get Prime 4 late in the Switch lifecycle, we most likely wont get another Prime on the new console. Nintendo would surely like the benefits of releasing on both consoles.
Essentially, this is a win-win situation; The new Switch gets a Metroid that benefits from a more powerful console. Aside from MP4 surely being a great offering for a launch title, it will also benefit from the marketing that comes with the launch of a new console (like they did with Dread and OLED Switch but even bigger).
The current Switch port version of MP4, would allow Nintendo to cater to the millions of existing gamers who are already on Switch, including those who have waited so long for it.
So essentially, enjoy it on (current) Switch or enjoy it on the new console with improved graphics/capabilities.
@MJL Metroid Prime 4 is going to be a launch title for next console and it will be designed for 4k.
It will also be released for Switch but of course downscaled, like a 1st-grade port which maximizes on the Switch's power.
So when we know the launch of the next console, we will know of Prime 4's release date.
...just my hunch 🤷🏻♂️
In my opinion, that is the best way to go, as Metroid Prime 4 could be a perfect show-piece of the new consoles graphical capabilities and by releasing on both consoles, audience can either buy it on Switch, or enjoy the graphical upgrade on the new console. Win win situation.
Considering Metroid is a title that takes time to produce and its coming in late in the Switch's life, it's a no brainer to ensure they can maximize on the games potential as well as sales.
@Pikman Yes but also don't forget, with GameCube there was barely any other games available. Game releases (on Cube) could be counted on one hand and it was Metroids first launch into 3D. So picking it up was a no brainer, as we were always itching for something new to play (and it was definitely a great game).
On the otherhand, on Switch, there is much more games to choose from and so from that perspective, Dread, actually did very well considering the plethora of other available games and releases.
The sales numbers listed, are lifetime sales, Dread is just based on 3 months. Metroid Prime was full on 3D, while Dread wasn't and unfortunately many people lately dismiss 2D games.
@fafonio Apparently, it's largely due to MP3: Corruption ...as that heavily involved Wii's motion controls, so it would need more work than just a graphical and performance boost.
Nintendo probably also wants Prime to release before Prime 4, for marketing purposes and with so much work needed for Corruption, it would probably affect their release schedule.
That said, they will probably take advantage of Prime Remastered to test the waters; if it sells well, they will probably proceed with remastering Echoes and possibly Corruption then repackage and sell them as a Trilogy Remastered.
@Inc obviously they should continue to innovate but they also need to keep the main aspect in tact, which is being able to play games with normal controllers.
This is not only more convenient for most gamers but it makes it easier to just pick up the controller/Switch and play.
This also is what helped bring so many 3rd party games and ports to Switch, because they didn't have to program for an entirely different type of way to control a game.
So the working formula + innovation is more than welcome.
@johnvboy @johnvboy They only recently phased out the 3DS, so they're surely working on more titles and those take time since Switch development takes up more resources than 3DS.
That said we did get a proper 3D Mario game, Smash Bros, Luigi's Mansion, Zelda (with a second coming), new ip's such as ARMS in just 3 years and we know Metroid is coming as well..and those are just off the top of my head.
I do believe once Metroid releases, this will be only the 3rd time since Snes and GameCube, where Nintendo manages to release the big 3 on one console let alone with other new ip's that have made a name for themselves.
On another note, this is also the first time since Snes, that big titles all get released on a Nintendo console that is heavily supported by 3rd Party devs, so Nintendo needs to also make sure 3rd Party titles get their spotlight and sales too. This is what I believe is also a big part of the Switch's success formula.
Could be Nintendo also held some cards back so they can still compete when PS5 and XBSX release. Nintendo does usually keep such scenarios in consideration.
@tendonerd I was very surprised to learn, on here, that some people have 300+ games apparently. I have around 15 to 20 games and thought that was a lot
@sanderev Putting together a Nintendo Direct shouldnt be that difficult even during this time. As long as they get the trailers and content they need, they should be able to stitch it all together like they always do.
E3 was meant to be in June, so was never really expecting any announcements till then and I'm pretty certain, Nintendo will still do something around that period, even if it's not on the same date as the cancelled E3.
@BenAV Yes i remember they did that but wowww 400 games?! I have around 30 games and that's more than what most people I know that have a Switch, own. I do agree, folders do look messier ..I dont have a single folder on my phone because of that and the less I need to click, the better
@BenAV This!^ Not sure why all the fuss for folders most people barely have 10 games downloaded and others still buy the physical copies. I'd personally rather them focus on more useful or innovative things.
@Jayofmaya Yea I believe you and this is what I was talking about, there are cases which are worse and they get away with less time ..but apparently this guy has done this a number of times and was also on probation.
@ThanosReXXX Thanks for clarifying but I didnt understand the last part if the article ...either way at the end of my comment, I did say, '...unless it's not the first time.'
Stupid of him either way; stealing from others really just shows how low a person is.
@LaVelle Thanks for clarifying but I didnt understand the last part if the article ...either way at the end of my comment, I did say, '...unless it's not the first time.'
@JasmineDragon Yes they were released in summer but that doesnt make them not old. DBZ, Brawlout and Arms are the only ones recently created ...anyways that debate is straying off the subject.
Just as you agreed, we do need current gen fighters such as the ones we mentioned. Maybe those retro-rereleased fighters still are enjoyable to some but to someone like me who was excited to download Street Fighter with updated graphics ...despite the prettier graphics, the game was far too slow and didnt have the depth of new fighting games.
That's like saying we have Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends, Wonderboy etc on Switch so we dont really need Mario Odyssey because we have a healthy amount of adventure games ...as great as those games may be, they still dont play like stuff made for current gen. Putting aside ARMs and DragonBall FighterZ, I personally, dont enjoy any of the other fighting games you listed l, as they feel slow, stale and old in comparison to games for current gen such as Tekken, SC, MK, DoA etc
@USWITCH64 I wouldnt say it's terrible as it's certainly fun but compared to 1-on-1 beat-em ups, it feels like a "mess" of a fun game as opposed to straight-up serious fighter ...if that makes sense. Im probably going to get flamed for this but as enjoyable as Smash is, it's truly over rated and doesnt fill in the gap of a games such as Tekken, Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat etc
@JasmineDragon All those you listed (except for a 2) are "ancient" 2D fighters which more or less play the same and are slow. I have Street Fighter and all it showed me was it hasnt aged well. I have ARMS and while it's enjoyable, it's still not a proper beat-em up.
I love my Switch but I do feel the only two genres lacking are fighting games and realistic car racing games/simulations. Nintendo needs to work on bringing us popular fighting games such as Tekken, Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat in the same way they brought us Doom, Dark Souls etc.
If Zelda, NBA2k18, Wolfstein, Dark Souls etc can run on Switch, then I see absolutely no reason why popular fighting games cant be released on Switch.
We seriously need some fighting games like Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat etc on Switch. The only option we have right now is Dragon Ball and that isn't even 3D ... And before anyone says it, Smash is indeed coming but it doesn't play like these.
@setezerocinco Haha exactly! I mean if it was so impressive, why sit on it for 20 years? He could have approached other conpanies such as Sega Sony or many others. Seems he just wants his moment of fame on the headlines.
@redh00f I agree, he's turned the image of the company around positively from every single aspect. The Nintendo brand has not been this relevant and popular since SNES.
The fact that he is not sitting on their first year success is a good sign and an even better sign, is that he recognizes that the "competition," could possibly release consoles that could take the spark away from Switch; this is a great sign as it means they're paying close attention and not just sitting back and watching success and expecting it to stay there.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You are correct but if they pull off Metroid right and announce a new Donkey Kong Adventure title pushed with the right marketing ..then they'll have more than just Mario and Zelda in the future. They will show it on Nintendo direct soon, it will be a playable title at E3 and released later in the year.
