Re: Opinion: An Ode To The Fallen Arm, Xenoblade Chronicles' Best Map

YorkshireNed

I opened the Plex media server app on my phone today as I was commuting home and it tipped me off that it was the 15th anniversary because when you bought the OG Wii version and registered it online you got a free download of the soundtrack. Plexamp's homepage always flags up any anniversaries from your music collection.

Kind of blew my mind because it feels like way more than 15 years to me. I finished it on the Wii, got halfway on the 3DS, beat it on Switch, beat XBX on the Wii U, played through XBC2 three times, played the DLC, beat XBC3 and the DLC. Now playing through the XBX remake.

It feels like a lifetime of gaming, 15 years seems too short!

Anyway, you're right, what an amazing chapter it was. Normally I detest it when a major character gets killed and we have all the drama around that only for them to be brought back. Yet here, we have something so much more complicated. Yeah, she comes back, but is she even human any more? What kind of future could they have? It haunted me then and it haunted me when I played through again on the Switch. Something very understated in the way they explored that story.

Re: Surprise! Another 'Switch 2' Accessory Has Been Revealed

Of course these are real, there'd be no point manufacturing and selling accesories for imaginary consoles. Nintendo like to play the hype game cooly. Game developers will be NDA'd to the brim so they can make a big splash with the announcement but 3rd party hardware manufacturers are a way to build buzz without really spoiling anything much

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Switch

YorkshireNed

@cylemmulo the Wii U version was completly seperate from the other games with no connection at all. Hence it being X rather than 2.

However, when they ported over 1, they created the "Future Connected" game which, like the "Future Redeemed" DLC for 3 and "Torna" DLC for 2 felt more like a mini-sequel.

So it's almost certain there'll be something like that for X and how could they not take that opportunity to tie it into the wider saga that evolved?

That mysterious clip at the end of the trailer seems to be from it. I don't think its a Kingdom Hearts cross-over, whoever has the hood on is more likely a character from the mainline series.

Re: Soapbox: "Go Outside, Get Some Fresh Air" - Why Won't Outmoded Gamer Stereotypes Die?

YorkshireNed

Older gamer here. Used to hear it all the time in the 80s but in the last 7 years I've been working in companies with much younger workforce and I never come across it. They're all companies with relaxed dress codes and I see a lot of gamer t-shirts and in my current job we have a Switch in the break room on our floor.

However, something like Sky News, its not aimed at the youth crowd. It's for the "you kids get off my lawn" brigade. It's not surprising they have presenters who are about 30 years behind the times.

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch

YorkshireNed

Very true. Loved World of Goo on Wii then grabbed Little Inferno on Switch and there was a world of difference.

Another thing the Wii does better is the Wiimotes work better for solo play than single joycon. We're visiting relatives who have their Wii U in the living room and my 5 year old is way better at Smash Brod when using a Wiimote than she is with a joycon

Re: Video: Is 3DS StreetPass Dead?

YorkshireNed

I was an early adapter of the 3ds but lived somewhere pretty rural at the time so it was months before I got my first hit when in the train station of a larger town. That was an incredible moment.

A few months later at one of those funny little county village events, I was amazed to get a hit and found out it was a friend of a friend, so we quickly became best mates.

My favorite was always taking it traveling. Used to get hits from all over the world going to places like London or Paris.

Sadly, lost my 3ds on a bus, rushing to a family emergency and though I got a new one, and Nintendo was able to restore a lot of my data, my street pass collection was lost for ever. My heart wasn't quite in it the same anymore after that but it was one of the best features of the 3ds

Re: Talking Point: In 2023, Do You Still Care About amiibo?

YorkshireNed

I was a sucker for these when they first came out but back then we were a Nintendo-only family and the kids were just the right age. Now we're more of a multi-playform family and my oldest is going to be a teenager on Sunday, they don't seem like the priority they once were when we were playing Smash on the Wii U. Think the last one we got was for Monster Hunter Rise.

Last years of the product or not, we can safely call them a great success that far outlived the competition such as Lego Dimensions, Disney Infinity and Skylanders.

Re: Random: People Are Recording Concerts On Their 3DS Consoles, And We Love It

YorkshireNed

When the 3DS first came out I was promoting a lot of concerts and I tried this once. Only once. Aside from the poor visuals, the sound was awful too, especially compared to my mobile phone (this was just before smartphones) I hsd at the time, which actually made decent recordings. Hang on, did I say the sound was awful? Sorry I meant completely %$^&ing abysmal.

Re: Nintendo Of America Named In Workers' Rights Complaint

YorkshireNed

@Wexter I doubt they'd be allowed to discuss it and as I'm based in a different state to Nintendo, probably nothing to do with the office I work with. I will say, hiring and firing and disciplinary decisions rest with us so IF something went down then it would fall on the big N. Of course, that's a big IF and I'll leave that to the courts.
