This seems like a good game format for telling a story. I know technology is at the point that you can have thousands of people online in a game but can you actually feel emotionally vested in every single one of those?
Regarding the illustration style: it's not that the stills don't look good, is that the animation is less easily perceived because the contour lines that look good in still shots look more choppy when animated. The same effect occured in the HD remake of Street Fighter 2 turbo. Street Fighter 2 Alpha had no such issue because the frames were illustrated with less reliant on contour lines and border lines despite the fact that it was anime style.
Still eagerly waiting. This game will be instantly sopped up by parched fans clinging for signs of life in the eshop's current dessert-dry offerings in the arcade racing game department.
This looks great. This genre can easily be a bountiful well of video game hits simply by following their lead, namely to be highly inspired by 16-bit era style of action and presentation but technically enhanced.
Nintendo just keeps nailing their design concepts from core values, to idea, design, to execution, to marketing! Whether I end up buying one and playing with my niece and nephew or not, it's brings me joy simply knowing there exists such a company that lives out its laudable values as much as Nintendo does!
The mobile game experience is different than handheld consoles. Its like a photographer that is used to putting in the time and effort for a deeper photography experience eitj a real camera versus having to use their phone simply because they don't have their real camera with them or didn't have the time to invest in a deeper experience. In that situation a mobile game works well. On a train between stations and have 5 minutes? Maro run is great for that.
@SanderEvers I wasn't even thinking about spin off games like that. The main line Mario games still had more overall variety in types of experiences than Zelda. When you say Zelda "stayed more true" that's sort of agreeing that the main line Mario games had more variety. But it wasn't variety for variety's sake. It was excellent new stuff. Odyssey is not a true platformer? It's not a 2d platformer, but it is a platformer.
@SanderEvers Zelda BOTW is mind bogglingly astounding but if you look at the totality of the franchises, Mario excelled at a more diverse range of experiences. For example: Any good multiplayer Zelda games? Any good level creator game for Zelda? Any good mobile game for Zelda?
Mario had a greater influence on other developers. Mario games are multiplayer games. Mario Maker completely owns that game category. No one even tries to imitate Super Mario World because it's so good. It is in this context that Zelda: Breath of the Wild still miraculously was able to distance itself from all other games. It is truly amazing. But as a franchise, Mario achieved and accomplished more.
Arcade style shooters and 3rd person perspective shooters are perfect for portable play. The WiiU demo was so good, it sustained my interest this whole time.
@Darius_Truxton Also rythm games, brain training games, pet owning games, music composing & animation making games, fitness games, minigame games, semi on rails shooting games, draw shapes for special weapon games, 3D puzzle games.
Very good arcade style smup. The presentation is nice enough to make the experience extra satisfying on top of the already satisfying action. On large plus for this game is the gamepad integration that lets you customize the location AND angle of your satellite cannons to a high degree of precision and flexibility. This is a clever interface technique that rewards your urges for creativity and desire to absolutely max out your weapons' effectiveness.
Very good review! Though the perfunctory negative comment to demonstrate fairness was such a minor deal that it just goes to show how darned impressive this game is. It truly is a massively impressive game on every front.
This game has a wonderful concept in general but throw in the creative and useful integration of the gamepad and you have an instant classic. Ubisoft impressively captures a sense of danger that prevails throughout the game. The presentation works great to that end. They succeed in making you feel really vulnerable.
This game is overflowing with creativity and is as much of a joy to play as it is a joy to witness. I've never seen better art direction in an any other video game, period. Forget the mandatory negative that reviewers append to their mostly glowing reviews about the difficulty in the depth of combat system. It's a fighting game; the combat system requires a learning curve to master. Get over it. Just like any number of Capcom fighting game masterpieces, you'll learn and be rewarded for it. You can button mash too, but you will not succeed much nor enjoy the game as much. Kudos to Platinum for sheer genius.
A stunningly impressive game. It's ambition is commendable. It's execution is flawless. This game works equally well as a 1p game as it does as a party game-what an achievement that is!
Great game. For what type of fun and experience it's designed for, is hard to imagine significant improvements! Visuals are lush, boisterous. The sounds are best in the business. Just listen to the African inspired stages! The gameplay mechanics are top notch.
Trine 2 Director's cut deserves to score higher than 7 for sure, because it can score a 7 just on graphical appeal alone. Favoring ad hoc solutions and dismissing the players' creative process for solving puzzles in the game causes the surprisingly less than stellar score. Those who enjoy the creative process will surely score this game one or two points higher. Completionists would relish the challenge and great acrobatic lengths it takes to collect the more difficult power ups, especially in the latter stages.
Why this decision is so hard is because these games are so different. Smw is more suited for core gamers with the insane star levels and hard to master for casual players. Sm3dw is by far the best for multiple players of varying skill to have fun. Smg2 shows off creativity of the developers the most and best for one player plus sidekick.
Downloaded it. It's neat, works smoothly, navigates intuitively. Nice job. So far the content is snack-sized from what I viewed. Finding content you may like is easy.
Gotta hand it to Nintendo this time!! Mario Maker taps into all the things people like about Nintendo. What a fitting celebration for the 30th anniversary. This game also captures Iwata's game philosophies perfectly - games should be fun to play; games should appeal to a wide audience and bring people together, games should create new experiences, games should be intuitive, games should put a smile on people's faces. This is the FIRST game that made any of my friends enthusiastically call me from accross the country just to tell me to buy a particular game and that he can't wait to make, share, and play each others levels and also play with his kids. I told him I was going to call him to tell him the same thing. Well done. Perfect 10 is fitting.
Ah what is this? A game that might use the gamepad in an innovative way?? One player solves a puzzle under pressure while her teammates battle baddies around her to keep her safe! Sounds like fun!
GMC feels artful and charming. The controls are tight, but they are slowed to match the more relaxed pace and presentation it aims for and succeeds in capturing. The visuals use a refreshingly minimal presentation that also helps set a back-to-basics simplicity. Overall this game successfully flashes-back to many people's fond memory of the 8-bit video game era while adding the modern-day independent developer's signature minimalist art style.
Some trolls may not contribute anything original, saying things that are absolutely forgettable, formulating bland ideas, leaving comments that aren't well thought-out. Overall their persona comes across very immature. Honestly why would anyone pay any attention to trolls when people can play the far superior role of deciding a game's worth for themselves? It's as easy as 1,2,3 (OK, it wouldn't hurt to listen to fair reviews either as long as readers don't mind all the time-wasting trolls).
For some unappreciative stubborn trolls they may ignore all considerations of a game such as creative visuals, charm, stage design and controls only to limit themselves to a narrow-minded slim bandwidth of gaming spectrum that, however good they may be judged, are the same game being paid for a second time and offer nothing new by definition. Trolls are a waste of time.
DK Tropical Freeze - Simple! Those that never played it or made it to the stage with the trees swinging back and forth the the stage music's beat might not vote for it. Everyone else did probably.
And you won't shut up about the 2fps. There's no reason why we must make a mountain out of a molehill over that, which is hardly noticable, versus blatantly ignoring how the wiiu provides something that is totally impossible on the other consoles. Too lazy to look at the consoles indepentently rather than blindly accepting media articles' campaign to dismiss all aspects of a gaming experience except frame rate?
Other consoles don't offer gamepad features WOW! That's a rip! Oh wait other consoles don't have 2nd screen at all, nevermind 2nd screen features!
Oh wait every Wiiu port Ubisoft made has the additional feature that its console competition lacks .What do you want for lacking an entire gamepad feature in exchange for an unnoticable 2 frames, an 8 or a 9? Really?Just for an unnoticed 2 frames and complete lack of gamepad?Wow.
@SuperWiiU That's why this is a bogus review. I noticed what you noticed too.
They totally make mountains out of molehills with 2 frames/second, meanwhile ignoring the gamepad features that are impossible on other consoles. If that's not biased, I don't know what is.

28fps / 30fps = 0.93
And that's just on the tv. They don't even count the gamepad fps.
Did the score or review reflect only a proportional 0.07 decrease (while ignoring the gamepad for some strange biased reason)?

Re: Review: Watch Dogs (Wii U)

A whole review and score based on 2 frames/second. Occasionally 5 frames/second. That's called making a mountain out of a molehill.
