I absolutely LOVE Monkey Island Plus, Telltale did a good opening impression on me with SBCG4AP, so this new MI saga should be sweet to take a look into. I do agree there, with Nintendo's funky release schedules I see their reluctancy in announcing it late, though in my case, I don't care
(and now, I'm off to wondering whether they're refer to the rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle or not...!)
I don't know what exactly is considered worse: Takeshi's Challenge or Action 52... XD
Still, I know that Beat Takeshi is a neat comedian (and yes, Takeshi's Castle was an AWESOME TV show), but I never would have guessed he'd pin ideas for one of the oddest videogames made for the Famicom. Seriously, waiting an hour for a map to show? You ALREADY get more than enough with Earthbound, waiting just 3 minutes to open a waterfall hideout up. So yeah... "why DO you take this game so seriously?"
Anyway, pressing on, I'm keen to see what he can do with the VC and its tougher game library. The Virtual Console should be full of insane wonders
Similarly, I'm about to clear it a third time (I keep on having this urge to clear it in as few cycles as possible lol) and I STILL haven't faced any crashes. I'm more convinced that those who DO face problems have something wrong with their machine rather than the software :
Seriously, I don't even know the cause. When I played through it (and at this point I can head for the moon at any time), I didn't face ANY technical problems. If there's something more serious that would cause a crash, I'd understand, but as far as I'm concerned it's probably overuse of the hardware.
@Comments 90 and 96: Game freezes DO exist? Then I suppose this means I need to save more often. Just out of question, if I save with an owl statue, and then after I load the file up I either get a game freeze or a game over (which neither situation have occurred yet luckily enough, and I've reached Ikara Canyon), does the owl save stay as it was when I last approached it or do I have to start from Day 1 all over again?
Also, I can't agree more. The music in the last 6 hours, "Last End", is one of few tracks that have EVER given me intense bouts of the jibblies (lol Homestar Runner terminology) since my first steps on the world of ruin in Final Fantasy 6. Kudos to that
You know, I never knew you can actually do that. >.> I'll see if I can organise my SD card in a similar way... even though all the channels I currently have barely even cover 4 pages yet...!
Now you know how I felt, having to wait longer than usual for Bit.Trip.Beat (I don't care about length, I'm a sucker for rhythm games). O.o But anyway, I know there will be a lot of people who would come on here and be disappointed by this, but due to the beginning of the DSi service and the chance to actually play an RPG for once, I wouldn't call this a kick in the netheregions at all. Maybe NOA are waiting on a different time to release Majora's Mask in the States :
It depends how good the C64 games in question are; if they end up with some of the 5-star games there, we can't pin the blame. But the least we can do is just wait and see what happens. It's gotta be more than US who would have the chance to play it >.>
My first GameBoy (with Tetris!!) was obtained as a gift in Christmas 1995, and along with the Sega Genesis it was a serious start to growth as a gamer. So yeah, I don't care if I chipped in late; happy 20 years of the GameBoy line
I don't know, a title like that would easily imply the forthcoming arrival of an event which odds of occurring are lower than the chance of a meteor breaking through the stratosphere and hitting southern Germany overnight. It made me think "damn, this HAS to be a shocker of an event", and it was (in a good way)
Ah, Puzzle Bobble. One of the most addicting puzzle games I ever played as a kid. If that ever shows up on the Wiiware service, I'd definitely be downloading that for quickplay purposes.
Never mind lucky us - we should be screaming "lucky Japan"!
@Bass & PJ, 33/40; Yeah, I haven't been around much; nothing much kept me interested since Secret of Mana's release. I still kept the feeds on the hope I'd see something worthwhile.
At any rate, I've had the file downloaded. I'm not expecting the Expansion Pak emulation to be perfect, but as long as it's beatable (i.e. 99% crash-free), then I'm game
1) Long time no post 2) You gotta be freakin' kidding me...!
Seriously, Majora's Mask is a game that I have ALWAYS wanted to play through N64 VC, and I'm really glad that it will be coming for this update. I bloody well hope I'm not dreaming of this, and if I'm not, then I hope the Wii can handle Expansion Pak emulation.
It won't affect my own personal feelings regarding certain games, but as long as it does a more distinguishable job in defining great games in comparison to the old 5 star system, I'm okay with it. Viva la VC
Well damn, that sucks. I know I can tolerate ROMing Mother 3, but do I HAVE to keep doing it with Earthbound as well?
But yeah, with the high amount of pop culture references I can see all the skepticalism, though it still sounds like paranoia on NoA's part. But still, there's no wonder why Earthbound STILL doesn't get a lot of credit out here. >.>
I merely played the Game Gear version of Sonic Chaos; I do agree that it seemed a little lackluster in comparison to other titles in the series, but it still sure as hell brings back good childhood memories
I too wish that Sonic & Knuckles would eventually see the light of day, but since it might not, the Sonic Mega Collection could be seen as the best option there is for now >.>
Interesting. I haven't played any of BPlus's titles (and after the reception for Plattchen, the reason is pretty much obvious >.> though what I've seen of Niki is pretty much starting to say otherwise...) but this sounds like something to check out. Strangely, someone I know actually found more challenge in Dream Land 3 than Adventure; being European, I'm one of those that have a desire to play it myself... come on, hurry up with the Hanabi Festivals so I can get my Kirby fix >.>
I wouldn't care if it's one game a week - at the rate you get you still get a guaranteed total VC games a months and so do we to some degree (stupid bi-weekly updates). If you want the game, then go for it. If not, then just stop complaining and let the others enjoy it in peace
A 6 and an 8 are decent scores if we put it this way. Not to mention that all the Strong Bad bashing around here is like a kick in the teeth for me no matter how good the final 2 games in the set were according to the staff. Most of you would feel the same if there was a crowd that did the same for Mega Man 9, World of Goo or anything similar, right?
But my point is, never call it a mediocre wiiware week until it turns out one of the games is a sequel to SPOGS or Platcchen. End of.
Well, let's put it this way. Once this week is over, we can finally get away from the debates between those that love SBCG4AP and those that loathe it. >.> At least, I should be able to enjoy this in peace, since I'd have to pretty much get a season pass to get the PC version otherwise.
I gotta give credit for that little (sub)par joke though. Hah.
@Kelvin, #30: You're my new best friend. Seriously though, SMRPG was fun for its time, but how it overshadowed SoM is something that heavily surprised me. I can't go wrong with the staff's selection of shooters though, though whether we disregard those or not depends on one's passion for the genre.
Swap Art Style for SBCG4AP and that's MY list (I've no illwill towards Art Style at all, just found it a better title IMO). What a good year for Wiiware in comparison to VC
Yeah, the original Smash Bros This better fly around to English-speaking nations eventually if it won't be long for the Japanese to receive it, and there better not be any several-month-long delays to it either like Brawl
Same situation as last fortnight - huttah for the SBCG4AP catch-up, and huttah for Art Style. Of course, obtaining any of these games would depend on one's preferences for any of these, but I say this is pretty dang good a week
It's a shame about Bionic Commando, but I wouldn't care less about the Street Fighter one, even though once upon a time I was.
And you want to know why?
I pin it on staff at OverClocked Remix (those that made SF2HD's soundtrack) spamming my mailbox telling me to "promote the game's awesome soundtrack".
Now, I'm someone who hangs out there and respect what the people do and all, but I'm NOT one for doing another person's dirty work. It's times like this when I actually feel THANKFUL for having a Wii as opposed to any other system. @.@
...aaand that's another awkward off-character statement gone off my chest
So, Baddest of the Bands is FINALLY out on the Wiiware side. Too bad I already cleared the PC version as stated in the recent North American update post. I suspect that Dangeresque 3 will follow suit next fortnight and all.
Also, HELL YES for the first Art Style release out here. Being passionate about the puzzle genre, I'll be sure to give it a go
It's not the money I'm really worried about, but more like the timing of Nintendo's VC/Wiiware release schedules out here (and yes, i'm still kind of peeved that we still haven't got Secret of Mana yet). Besides, in spite of the conversion rates, I was 15p better off for the PC version of episode 3, import taxes included O.o
Thus, the least I (and some of us other Europeans out here) can do is wait for this week's Wiiware update and see what happens.
@Wiiloveit, comment #14: Are you sure? I looked at the price for the five-game PC deal and compared it to the £21 I'd normally pay for 3 episodes. Because of my location, they added import taxes on top of the payment, so it actually sounds more logical to get the last two instalments seperately, though the format remains to be seen.
Yep, once again it sucks to be British, and don't get me started on the credit crunch @_@
@Drake, comment #8: I'm aware of the discount, though having already cleared the Wiiware versions of Episodes 1 and 2 it might be a bit pricy to get the season pass now. I appreciate what you're saying though.
@Ness, comment #3: All the episodes are loosely connected to each other, so you don't necessarily need to play the prior 3 episodes to understand this one. All you need to see are the 2 SBemails above that give you some info on the whole Dangeresque setting, which should take no more than 10 minutes at that.
Having obtained the other 3 episodes of SBCG4AP, it's no secret that I'm anticipating Dangeresque 3. But the sound of this being the best episode so far makes it all the more exciting news for me to boot. Nice summarisation, Drake
Mind you, as we know, Episode 3's Wiiware release out here is running late, and I already (impatiently) downloaded and cleared the PC release. The only hopes of this reaching European Wiiware this week is if it comes in a double bill with the previous episode (which is a very long shot), so what do you think would be the best bet for us Europeans - download the PC version now, or risk a week's wait?
I wanted to play both games but weren't expecting them in the same week - now I don't know what to play first...! Anyway, definitely an awesome week for sure
I can't remember complaining about a retail release or not because I still want to play it nonetheless after all the good things everyone's saying about it. But anyway, once it comes through to Wiiware, I'm going to flock my way over, that's for sure
Mega - Man - 3! Sweet, even if it's one game then that's one that surely everyone should pick up. I'm getting that on the EU VC as soon as it gets released, that's for sure.
Looks like a good week on the Wiiware front. I know a lot of people have gone crazy over Alien Crush Returns, so I can appreciate this being one to look out for, that's for sure.
Concerning those disappointed that SBCG4AP Episode 3 didn't come out this week, I know how it feels like. In America, the games usually get released the Monday AFTER a recent Wiiware update, and coupled with the not-so-powerful European sales I shouldn't be surprised over the delay.
If you really can't wait for just two more weeks in the hope of seeing it again, you can still give the PC version a go - I'm not usually a PC gamer at all due to the awkwardness of maintaining your computer with the latest specs, but it somehow works fine on my wimpy machine, or at least from what I saw in the demo. So, if you want, you can try the demo and if you still think you'd get a kick, then go on and buy that. I know it won't be the same, but it'll hold you over either way
Still no Secret of Mana? >.> Hmmm... fine. 'Least we got Castlevania III, and I hope you Americans get it soon as well, because that's (and I quote Homsar from the Homestar Runner toons on this) "a healthy piece of real estate".
I wouldn't care about what kind of responses Megaman 9 has received (shoot me) but that video rocked I'm a sucker for stop animation, and it's stuff like this that so easily make my day!
@Wiiloveitonline, comment #10: Though DKC3 didn't "look" festive, then surely that secret cheat code ("MERRY" when naming your file) and the result of Christmas themed bonus rounds meant that it would have fit rather well for a Christmas update last year, I believe.
But anyway, glad to see you guys finally got Earthworm Jim. Enjoy it, y'all
I got the patch Strangely enough, instead of waiting for a flash cart I'm better off waiting for an actual game controller for my PC to play it with. Everything is working fine with the setup I'm currently using though, so hats off to Tomato and the team
I said in the first few posts that I'd wait as long as it takes for Secret of Mana (and to some extent Mega Man 3 as well). I'm surprised that even with the inclusion of MiM, not many of my peers seem to be following suit. I can understand the awkwardness for the Australians, having only to put up with only the other two (or one if Street Fighter II is still unavailable for them). But let's put it this way - surely nothing could follow up from the awesomeness of 2 weeks ago, right?
Well, I too really wanted to re-approach Secret of Mana and all but it's most likely that Nintendo have other plans regarding when it would be released (surely before the year is out >.>), not to mention us already getting a batch full of great games in the past month or so. It's a cruel waiting game, but it'll be worth it in the end.
First comment, and like I said in the USA releases, it was a bit of a disappointment in comparison to what they got. But still, Mayhem in Monsterland looks promising.
@Stuffgamer1, comment #161: I've subscribed to the mailing list for that Mother 3 translation project months back; if it's launching this weekend, then count me in!
But still, after all that hype we get a bit of disappointment - Space Harrier, Street Fighter 2 Genesis and Mayhem in Monsterland (although, I do appreciate a good C64 platformer). Oh well, at least it bought me more time to actually get into Shining Force II >.>

Interseting selections for 2008, though mine would look more like this:
1 - Secret of Mana (how did THAT evade the list?!)
2 - Ys I & II
3 - DoReMi, like you guys said
4 - Phantasy Star 4
5 - Mega Man 3
I'm hoping that 2009 would blow the stocks off this year in more ways than one - happy new year

So, if you want, you can try the demo and if you still think you'd get a kick, then go on and buy that. I know it won't be the same, but it'll hold you over either way
Re: EU VC Releases - NES Halloween Trio
Still no Secret of Mana? >.> Hmmm... fine.
'Least we got Castlevania III, and I hope you Americans get it soon as well, because that's (and I quote Homsar from the Homestar Runner toons on this) "a healthy piece of real estate".
Re: Mega Man 9 Stop-Motion Video is Great Beyond Words
I wouldn't care about what kind of responses Megaman 9 has received (shoot me) but that video rocked I'm a sucker for stop animation, and it's stuff like this that so easily make my day!
Re: USA VC Release - Earthworm Jim
@Wiiloveitonline, comment #10: Though DKC3 didn't "look" festive, then surely that secret cheat code ("MERRY" when naming your file) and the result of Christmas themed bonus rounds meant that it would have fit rather well for a Christmas update last year, I believe.
But anyway, glad to see you guys finally got Earthworm Jim. Enjoy it, y'all
Re: USA VC Releases: Secret of Mana and Street Fighter II Genesis
I got the patch
Strangely enough, instead of waiting for a flash cart I'm better off waiting for an actual game controller for my PC to play it with. Everything is working fine with the setup I'm currently using though, so hats off to Tomato and the team
Re: EU VC Releases: Mayhem in Monsterland and More
I said in the first few posts that I'd wait as long as it takes for Secret of Mana (and to some extent Mega Man 3 as well).
Re: EU VC Releases: Mayhem in Monsterland and More
Well, I too really wanted to re-approach Secret of Mana and all but it's most likely that Nintendo have other plans regarding when it would be released (surely before the year is out >.>), not to mention us already getting a batch full of great games in the past month or so. It's a cruel waiting game, but it'll be worth it in the end.
Re: EU VC Releases: Mayhem in Monsterland and More
First comment, and like I said in the USA releases, it was a bit of a disappointment in comparison to what they got. But still, Mayhem in Monsterland looks promising.
Re: USA VC Releases: Secret of Mana and Street Fighter II Genesis
@Stuffgamer1, comment #161: I've subscribed to the mailing list for that Mother 3 translation project months back; if it's launching this weekend, then count me in!
But still, after all that hype we get a bit of disappointment - Space Harrier, Street Fighter 2 Genesis and Mayhem in Monsterland (although, I do appreciate a good C64 platformer). Oh well, at least it bought me more time to actually get into Shining Force II >.>
