Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

Pojos98

This makes me queasy. It’s like an alcoholic trying to adopt more children. Microsoft’s only guiding idea and inspiration is the dark idea that everyone will someday come under their umbrella. They look at Zelda TOTK and say ‘wow, how did they do that?’ because they literally don’t know. They don’t know how to make fun games that people value. They spend all their budget just sucking things up like a vacuum.

@dustinprewitt I got into Pokémon at the age of 12 with Gen 1 in 1999. I feel like that’s the oldest I could have been and still gotten in on the hype. I don’t think anyone older that 7th or 8th grade got into Pokémon back then who wasn’t already really into RPGs. It’s just interesting to me cause I experienced Gen 1 along with kids 6 or 7 years younger but basically no one older than me.

Re: Every Dragon Quest Game Ranked

I’m playing 11 now. Only ever played 1 before that. Gotta be honest it feels very grindy and drawn out. That’s great for the fans but it’s maybe something I should have steered clear of.

If your first is inevitably your favorite I have to go with Super Circuit. It’s not like I had a bunch of friends to play with anyway lol so the single player was good enough. The music for Sunset Wilds is still some of my favorite.

Re: Feature: Nintendo eShop Selects - June 2022

Got all 3 this month. Card Shark is wonderful, but I can’t shake the feeling that the gameplay loop and tutorials could have been done better. The game felt like it was constantly putting me through tutorials instead of giving me simple rules to use to get to know the deck. It’s strange to say that a game can be great without great gameplay but Card Shark really has a lot going for it in every other department to write it off completely. I wish they could refine the gameplay and turn it more into like a real puzzle game that forces you to learn the rules deeply but allows you to improvise. If it did that then I think you’d really ‘feel’ like you’re cheating at cards instead of following button prompts.

@Serge_G Glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty great myself but they toys (even though they were cool) were t actually practical to use in the game. The gameplay got a little repetitive too, but overall it was a good time. Sad to think they probably won’t do a sequel.

Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?

Pojos98

Probably I’m just old, but you used to only get 5 hours out of a 60 dollar game and that was good enough. You’d replay it, but that didn’t mean it had great ‘replay value’. If something is between 8 and 20 hours I’m happy to pay for it. I have no expectation that every game is a 200 hour adventure.

Re: Video: Miyamoto’s Loveable But Forgotten Game Boy Classic - Mole Mania

Pojos98

I finished this one last year over about six months or so. It was brilliant and well crafted, but honestly just too grueling. The problem is that you never exactly feel like you’re getting better because the challenges just keep ramping up with little down time. Also, each of the successive 7 or 8 worlds have more and more rooms to the point that the last two worlds really start to drag and feel like a game in themselves. Put it this way, in 2d zeldas you have an hour of adventuring mixed with an hour of dungeon time with maybe 5 really tough rooms in each dungeon. Mole Mania is like Zelda minus the adventuring, three times the total dungeon rooms and almost all of them you have to think your way out of. Maybe appealing to hardcore puzzle abd retro Nintendo fans, but hard to recommend otherwise. Either way, glad I played it. Never felt unfair and I definitely felt a rush of achievement afterwards.

Re: Nintendo Is Shutting Down Dr. Mario World For Mobile

Pojos98

@SalvorHardin The difference with Mario 35 and All Stars is that the terms were made clear from the beginning, so the expectations were clear. If Nintendo were to release a mobile game abd say it’s only getting support for one year, that’s fine, I won’t invest too much in it.

Re: Nintendo Is Shutting Down Dr. Mario World For Mobile

Pojos98

This is lame. I will even defend Nintendo when they do this with Mario 35 or All Stars, but when it comes to mobile games it feels worse. This is why I don’t put much time or effort into mobile games. I really liked Miitomo and then poof, it’s gone.
