Given the nature of the game, this is true. That was never really disputed though. At least, not by me. I've already acknowledged numerous times it's not game breaking. Hence why I said that it wouldn't affect my decision to purchase it long term. Whether they address it or not, it'll give them more time to polish it further and make it even better.

This is a very informative post, I had no idea about half the things listed here. You also don't have to state that your post was edited, that's just something I and a few others do. Far as I know there's no etiquette or anything involving that. Since it appears you're new, welcome to Nintendolife!

@Mountain_Man
As the post above yours shows, there are definitely other things that are more deserving of a patch, this much I agree on. The text box issue is just a silly thing that people have picked up on because it's the most obvious oddity that pops up mere minutes into the game. It's ridiculous to have a giant text box notify you that you are indeed in combat, but it's not game breaking. This is why my original post on the issue was worded the way it was and why I clarified later on that it's not something that would deter me from this version of it forever. It's just a stupid thing that bothers some people and not others. But it's a stupid thing I'd like to wait and see fixed.

The thing is though, it doesn't affect the gameplay for YOU, but for other people, it's extremely off-putting and it would affect gameplay for those people. It's distracting and annoying to look at. I don't like it and think it's worth waiting to see if something is done about it.

I'm beginning to think you're either skimming posts or having a reading comprehension problem. At no point did I ever suggest anyone "should avoid it". I have no idea where you're even getting that from. I speak only for myself. This is the 2nd time now you've taken one of my posts and completely re-worded it to fit a completely different context. If i were going around actively telling people not to buy it, you'd be right, but I'm simply stating that I have no intention of buying this game until it's ironed out a little more. Should be relatively simple to understand, but here we are still going back and forth. The idea of someone waiting for a few patches should not be such an alien concept.

Except for me and numerous others, it IS an issue that they want addressed, enough so that this article exists and the developer had to defend the reason it was in there. The fact this article even exists proves you wrong.

I'll give you credit for being the first one to actually try and convince me it's not an issue (rather than get triggered and block me), but it annoys me a bit and I'm just waiting to see if they possibly address it. Like I said before, if they don't, it's not enough to stop me from buying it, but fixing or adjusting it in some way would help push me towards buying it sooner. I'm especially curious if they add in a slider of some kind for the whole UI.

Some of you are acting like it's somehow money out of your pocket. I'm literally just waiting before buying a game. Is this really so novel a concept? It really should not be that hard to wrap your brain around. At no point did I say I'm not buying it, or even refuse to buy it. Just WAITING. I should not need to defend my position 3 different times. Good grief. Even in my initial post on the matter, I simply said it "could" discourage me from getting it at full price, implying that I would get it on sale perhaps. I didn't bash the port or the game itself.

EDIT: Also just for some clarification (the below post reminded me of this), I'm also waiting for any possible other kinks to be addressed (someone above mentioned an issue with subtitles). Again, this should not be such a novel concept. In fact to give the port it's due credit, it looks to be extremely well done, but I think it will be better in a few months.

If you're referring to me, I never said I "Refused" to buy it, I simply said it COULD potentially put me off from buying it, and I even stated in a follow up comment that if it never got patched, I'd likely buy it anyway. I'm simply waiting to see if they address the issue. Not only that, but I've seen gameplay of it, and it can literally cut off half the character's from the screen. The screenshot shown on NL isn't indicative of how it looks in every single instance. In some cases it's worse while in others, it's not so bad. Either way, I don't see how waiting to see if a potential issue with a game is addressed is a problem.

You KOTOR fanboys are overreacting way too much to a simple comment. Give me a break.

I have the Wii version but I was a bit put off by how much the game blatantly spoils the solution to puzzles early on by telling you exactly how to solve them. I assume the game stops doing that later on but it was just way too handholdy for me. The graphics are still great though. Maybe I'll give the Wii version another try someday and see if I still feel the same about the handholding. Kinda funny since this is the total opposite of the NES game, where the game doesn't explain anything!

Fair enough, I find it equally clownish to care so much about what reason someone might have for not buying a nearly 20 year old game remastered on the Switch at full price. Maybe we should start a circus?

But whatever. The fact you blocked me proves how triggered you are over a simple comment. The fanboyism is strong with this one. I can only imagine how hard you took the 7/10 review score it got on Nintendolife. Must be sad being this salty.

@Gwynbleidd

Triggered fanboy much? The game is nearly 20 years old and I have several other platforms I can play it on without a text box that takes up roughly 30% of the screen. Not to mention plenty of other games I can play right now. I've also seen numerous reviews that mentioned the size of the UI textbox being annoying so I'm hardly alone and there's a decent chance they'll fix it in a patch. It seems smarter to simply wait and see if they patch it, while potentially getting it a few dollars cheaper. Even if they don't fix it, I'd likely still grab it at a later date. November is a month loaded with releases and there's two holidays coming up. I feel like I can wait a little longer to play a game this old.

I'm open to hearing some reason I should go and download it ASAP. Is there some special content I'm missing on? Is the game going to be pulled off the Eshop if I wait? Or are your jimmies just a tad bit rustled that someone DARED to not rush out and buy it? I'm going with the latter on this one.

Onion

Most of the posts I've seen are just confirming how terrible the game is. Makes me wonder how hard Nintendolife had to dig to find so many posts defending the game in order to spin this narrative that Other M is somehow this "secretly good" game. I mean, at least one of these posts has been a confirmed troll post by the author.

Just let this topic die already. This game was a complete joke, even Dread makes fun of it. The whole scene with Kraid was basically a mirror opposite of the infamous Ridley scene in Other M.

EDIT: In fact, in one of the twitter posts you posted, they're literally laughing at you Nintendolife.

EDIT 2: The author of another one of those posted tweets also muted her own tweet (and basically accused anyone who disagreed of being sexist) when people massively disagreed with their stance and dismissed everyone with a series of "LOL"s. I don't think there was any intention of an actual discussion there and writing it off as yet another troll. Batting 0-2 here, Nintendolife.

Nintendo definitely misread the room on this one. While I'm sure there will be many who would/will pay this amount with no complaint, the amount they're asking is simply too much for most consumers. There's already a million ways to play Genesis games and there's not enough N64 games on offer. This leaves the Animal Crossing DLC as the main selling point.

As for me, I would likely not bother with it for a few months until more N64 games are added and then consider it. I'm interested in what third party titles could get added. The bomberman games, perhaps? The Goemon titles would be nice, too. but as it stands, it's too much to play N64 games I already own physicals of or have access to in some other capacity. I would have been fine with a 10 dollar increase but they're asking more than twice what we already pay for.

Re: Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX Bundles Both Games On Switch, And It's Launching This Year

Definitely going to grab this despite owning both original copies. Because my copy of MR2 refused to run on my PS2 Slim, I didn't get to play it nearly as much as I wanted to. As much as I loved the CD swapping mechanic, I find that nowadays I honestly just want to play the games. Plus unless you owned certain CDs, it was difficult to unlock certain monsters. I'm all for a CD database, especially if you can unlock or find them as you play.

Really hoping this also paves the way for an eventual MR3 and 4 re-release, especially since people in Europe apparently didn't get MR4 or DS.

It was before I got fred actually, I was going to do an edit where I mentioned that the soft lock issues end once you get Fred, but wasn't sure if that'd somehow count as a spoiler. (Fred being in a Blaster Master shouldn't be considered a spoiler, but still...)

Once I got Fred the issue didn't occur again. Thankfully you get him extremely early. Before I got Fred though I got out of the tank and jumped down this area only Jason could fit through and... was stuck.

And another Edit: After getting through the first tutorial area and grabbing Fred, I'm enjoying the game way more now. I think it was just that first part of the game that was rubbing me wrong.

Re: Review: Blaster Master Zero 3 - A Masterful Conclusion To The Trilogy

Like with the 2nd game, I just don't seem to be feeling it with the third installment. I bought the game last night and already encountered a soft lock in the first area. In addition, I'm really hating how you have to shoot switches to open the doors in the first area overhead sections.

I'm hoping they patch the soft lock and I'm REALLY hoping the whole shtick of shooting switches with the correct gun to open doors isn't in the whole game. It just slows down the pacing. There's absolutely no reason for it.

Even so, it's the most reasonably priced game I've bought in a while. Between Nintendo charging full price for a Wii game and the Cotton Reboot being so expensive, I was grateful to see such a low price on this game.

EDIT: Just throwing out there that the soft locks are solved once you find Fred, which doesn't take long.

Personally, my main interest in the Steam Deck is seeing what hackers are able to do with it. I'm very interested in seeing what kind of homebrew community could pop up around this thing once it gets jailbroken.

EDIT: Apparently doesn't need to be broken so in that light, I'm interested in what kind of emulators the device can run. Also, the potential to run fangames like AM2R and SoR Remake has me tempted.

Oddly enough my cartridge seems to have been already patched. I was extremely confused this morning when I expected to download a patch and it didn't need one. I can also confirm that for whatever reason they're shipping this game in very small numbers, at least in the US. My local store only had 4 copies on release day. The store hadn't even brought the copies out yet until I showed up to buy one.

Re: Soapbox: Super Metroid Showed Me I Had The Right To Exist

Onion

I've never really had a problem with characters like Chun-Li anymore than I have problems with characters like Zangeif or Ryu. There's nothing inherently wrong with a sexy female character with a bit of fanservice. On the other hand I agree that it's cool to see the other side of the coin and have a female character that isn't rubbing her gender in your face. My issue is when people start demanding that certain characters be censored or otherwise changed to please certain crowds. I appreciate that this article doesn't really do that and simply appreciates that we got a character that isn't terribly sexualized or diminished in some way.

The title of the article confuses me though. I feel like it's never explained in what way Super Metroid justified your right to exist. Sounds a bit over-dramatic. If that's how you actually felt then you may need to speak to a therapist. I don't mean that in an insulting way either. If that was how you felt/feel then there's definitely some underlying issues there. Your right to exist shouldn't be tied to a piece of gaming media. This is all of course assuming the title is meant to be taken literally.

That aside, we definitely have more options nowadays for games with female leads. I recently started playing Super Princess Peach and was surprised by how much fun it was. I just wish onions had better representation in video games. The giant onion boss from Cuphead doesn't count!

People calling him a criminal need to get with reality. You may not like what he's doing, but no laws are being broken. He is on questionable moral ground but not legal ground. This is no different than people who go out and buy expensive, limited edition luxury sneakers and sell them to "Sneakerheads" for a massive mark-up.

I'm not crazy about these practices either as it makes it harder for enthusiasts to grab things they may want, but the kid is simply using a system that tends to reward these practices. He's making investments. Let's not turn this into a witch hunt. Someone is going to do it if he doesn't. The practice of buying something for a lower or retail price and selling it for more isn't exactly a new or novel concept. I'm willing to bet that a good portion of the angry commenters here have probably done this at some point in their lives. There is no point in being angry over it. This is life.

At least this is being done with luxury items that no one needs. It's not food, water, or medicine.

I game over'd last night and noticed I still had my save. I have no idea how this game handles the saving system. I don't know why they didn't simply include a standard save state issue. I game over'd another time and I'm fairly positive I lost my save as well.

Let me try that password... Day of the Tentacle doesn't work for me either. Did they take out the secret level? I also tried the other two secret level passwords and only one worked. The passwords for the other levels I've tried so far work. I have no idea why this is.

EDIT: I did a quick look and someone on Gamefaqs has reported the exact same issue with Day of the Tentacle. If it turns out they took out that level then that's another nail in the coffin for this port.

This port is all messed up.

Re: Review: Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol - A Classic That Deserves Better

@DawgP

Passwords work for me, I was able to use all of my original passwords (mostly just to see if they'd work for fun). It's entirely possible that the UK versions may just be the US versions or something like that, which would prevent passwords from working. My passwords came from the US SNES version. I'm also not sure how the game handles SNES or Genesis passwords. if I put in a Genesis password, will it work? Might have to experiment with that.

EDIT: Also weirdly enough when I got a game over, my recent save where I had quit was actually still intact. Not sure what to make of that because I could have sworn it clears your last save as well. Anyway i tested out some passwords. The Genesis passwords didn't work but the SNES ones did. So maybe that's the issue? Otherwise I'm not sure why anyone would have issues getting passwords to work unless this is some weird mix of SNES and Genesis versions.

Aside from that this is a poor effort. There's no online play and the same tired old issue of inventory management remains. They did the bare minimum possible. Luckily I got the game using nintendo coints/points so it technically didn't cost me anything. The only saving grace here is that the game itself is still brilliant and fun to play.

6/10 is about right. The only reason it deserves to score that high is because ZAMN still holds up as a great game despite the lack of effort.

Oh and definitely needs a patch to get rid of that ugly border. It's quite distracting. I also hate how they took out the original title screen and left us with this lame new title screen with clown music playing. What the heck were they thinking?
