Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Digital File Size Seemingly Reduced

Austrian

I just fired it up recently on my WiiU and it still looks absolutely amazing. even after 10 years.
The level of detail, image quality, sheer size of the world itself and superb texture work is just bonkers.
especially when you consider that it's truely 'one' seamless world (no loading between the different regions) and everything has to have a fully rendered "top" as well

Re: Random: PlayStation's Astro Bot Director Pays Tribute To Mario And Nintendo In GOTY Speech

Austrian

Kudos to him.
Nintendo's importance in videogames and especially platformers shouldn't be understated.
As he mentioned in his speech: no other company puts out high quality games (which furthermore constantly innovate the genre) at this rate.
There is hardly any real stinker in Nintendo's entire VG history which is ridiculously impressive.

@obijuankanoobie

I guess some of his Sony bosses wouldn't be too keen with him mentioning the Big N as biggest inspiration at the GOTY awards.

Re: It's Official, 'Switch 2' Will Be Backwards Compatible

Austrian

I'm pretty sure the Super Switch/Switch 2 will have backwards cart compatibility as well.
I see no reason why they shouldn't use the same cart format (although with higher capacities) as the switch. it's perfect for a (semi-)mobile device. no moving parts, tiny in comparison.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Switch

Austrian

Yes!
One of my most played Xenoblade games.
The world of X is second to none. so much variety, landmarks and tons of different types of enemies. gameplay can be confusing though.

It also happens to be (next to BOTW) the most impressive Wii U game. One enormous world and not a singly loading screen.
Once you get the mech (and therefor "flying" abilities) it really shows what they accomplished on the WiiU.
The level of detail is almost ridiculous. It runs constant 30fps at a locked(!) 720p res. No dynamic resolution at all. This gives the game a very stable picture quality at all times. almost like a painting.

I hope the switch release fixes the enemy pop-in(which can be bad on the WiiU) and maybe gives the game a res boost to 1080p. otherwise I'm still absolutely fine how it looks on the WiiU. after almost 10years.

Re: Review: Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster (Switch) - Another Must-Play From Nightdive

Austrian

I borrowed a PS1 and the game from my friend to play through it several times on a tiny CRT screen.
The framerate of the PS1 version was HORRENDOUS so I can't wait to play the Switch version.
not the biggest fan of the smoothed-out visuals though, so I will turn them off for sure.

If 'Blood' and 'Shadow Warrior' get ported next I declare the Switch to my fav console ever.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Talks 8-Inch 'Switch 2' Screen, Joy-Con Compatibility

Austrian

John Linneman even goes so far as to say that the Switch's successor may not even come with detachable controllers:

"I would not be surprised to see the Joy-Con removed entirely and replaced by on-board controls. I think the Joy-Con concept was neat; it kinda worked but in practice I suspect that people weren't switching between them that often, and it ultimately made the machine somewhat flimsier, it was another point of failure."

yeah...he is dead wrong here.

Re: Review: Dodonpachi DaiOuJou Blissful Death Re:Incarnation (Switch) - Poetic Bullet-Hell Perfection

Austrian

I'm rather an oldschooler when it comes to shmups.
I am really really good at Raiden 2, Axelay and Super Aleste and can finish them rather easily on the hardest settings.

Bullethell shmups are a different story though. As a diagnosed dyslexic I get "overwhelmed" by the hundrets of bullets on screen. I cannot seperate them anymore (like with letters) and they become just a huge pile of pixel mess or start disappearing all together.

anyway...
always remember: No matter how good (you think) you are at shmups; there's always that one japanes dude who 1CC'ed Ikaruga alone(!) in two player mode with perfect chain combos.

Re: Random: Dragonforce's Latest Single Is A Perfect Tribute To The Legend of Zelda

Austrian

While I do appreciate their Zelda dedication, the video was just a bad mess. All over the place with aweful GFX.
song itself is ok'ish but nowhere near their prime of the first two albums.

I have a demotape (audio cassette) from an U.S. hardcore-punkband which I bought back in the mid 90s. They did a whole "Nintendo-album". One of the songs is a dedicated Zelda song with original jingles and all.

Re: Analogue's CEO Reckons Not Even Nintendo Could Beat Its New 'N64'

Austrian

btw, for anyone who doesn't want to get a bulky CRT:
A real N64 works/looks pretty good on a quality SD(!) LCD TV.
I got myself a 10€ Sharp Aquos LC-20S4E (even "made in japan") for gaming because my old CRT consumed a sh*tton of energy.
It puts out 640x480max and all my old consoles(NES,SNES,N64 and GC) look great on it. I also use it for my VCR. The picture is sharp and CRT'ish without hardly any 'smear'.
certainly a good compromise for anyone without CRT

Re: Mini Review: Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps And Beans 2 - Basic Brawling But Fun For Fans

Austrian

If you are a fan of the movies (and it's hard not to be once you saw them. who doesn't like slapstick violence?) you will love these games.
I enjoyed the first one with my buddy and we will play the hell out of this one as well.
The Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movies are basicely movie-editions of 80s/90s arcade beat'em up (except that most movies are older than the games). Two guys nonstop beat up dozens of bad dudes in a wonderfully overblown way.
i.e: Bud smacks the hell out of five guys at once.

Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

Austrian

It's rather astonishing that MS doesn't seem to exactly realize (for years) that it's extremely difficult or even impossible to "just take over/buy" a japanese company. Especially if it's a powerhouse like Nintendo.
It doesn't work like a takeover in the U.S (or any other parts of the world).
Valuable(historical and financial wise) japanese companies like Nintendo are under state-controlled protection to prevend (hostile) foreign takeovers.
Nintendo will stay Nintendo for at least the next decades.
No other brand is more associated with quality japanese-made video games. Super Mario isn't the most popular mascot on this planet, even surpassing Mickey Mouse, for no reason.

Re: The Witcher III On Switch Finally Gets DLC Inspired By The Netflix Series

Austrian

@Mauzuri
I completely understand you.
for me it was Skyrim's rather odd use of gore/violence.
While the game isn't even that violent (only blood and afair one decapitation at the beginning) I couldn't stand those damn impaled burned corpses throughout the game.
They are unnecessarily detailed and extremely off putting.
I mean, burned alive AND impaled? come on..

Re: 'Double Dragon Gaiden' Announced With Scott Pilgrim-Inspired Visuals And Gameplay

Austrian

It seems that "oldschool" shaded bitmap art (like the original double dragon arcade game) is slowly becoming extinct.

I don't like this "scott pilgrim" style; only the SoR4 artstyle is worse. They feel cheap(in a 'flash' animation way), life- and soulless. to me, at least.

Man, what would I give for a switch port of Double Dragon Advance and the SFC version of Super Double Dragon. The best DD games to date.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Apparently Has The Biggest File Size Of Any First-Party Switch Release

Austrian

@5th313ment
" They dont care what the fans want or think, ever. And they overcharge for everything. ......Charging a ton for the crappy expansion pack that is 1/16th of the deal that Microsoft and Sony offer."

aha...
You mean the Nintendo that resurrected IPs (Sin & Punishment , Fatal Frame etc) of super-niche games, co-financed the complete development circle and even published them, willfully knowing that they could never possibly make a dime?

The Nintendo that re(!)introduced slowdown with an update in Starfox 64 on the Wii Virtual Console because "some fans wrote them it doesn't feel like the N64 one"?

and what is a "crappy expansion pack"?
If you mean the Online Expansion pack I don't agree with you.
I pay a whoopin 3.3(!) euros a month for ~80 NES-, over 60 SNES-, 18 N64-, 11 GBA-, 9 GB- and 30ish Mega Drive games; a quadzillion of new Mario Kart 8 tracks/characters, Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise and the complete Splatoon 2 Octo expansion pack.
Alone the NES and SNES games offer hundrets of hours of gameplay and include some of the best RPGs, Act-Advs and Jump'n Runs ever made.
Plus you can play them anywhere you want.
for hardly 3.5 euros a month.
Sorry but I can't see the "crappy" or "expensive" in this offering.
