Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios have announced that Railway Empire will soon be treated to brand new DLC based on Japan.
Switch owners will have to wait a little longer for the DLC than those playing on other platforms – a 7th May release date is scheduled for PS4, Xbox One and PC, with Switch coming "later" – but it looks like your patience will be rewarded. You'll be able to create an all-new railway network alongside Japan's gorgeous, cherry blossom scenery, as described below:

"Railway Empire - Japan sees the series move to late-1800s Japan where an industrial revolution is booming and the people are crying out for a nationwide railway. After the successful restoration of the Meiji rule, the Land of the Rising Sun’s long-term ambition to develop its own modern, nationwide railway network has become a reality and people from formerly feudal regions are yearning to travel to booming metropolises.
Players can lay tracks amongst mountains and cherry blossoms, using foresight, planning and clever strategy to establish a railway network and facilitate the 'great commute', moving Japan into a new industrial age."

If you're yet to try the base game, you can grab it now from the eShop for £35.99, or you can grab a physical copy from Amazon for just £24.99.

Why didn’t y’all review this game? Or did I some hoe miss it?
I never even knew this game existed. As a lover of railways I might pick this up cheap on Amazon.
If graphics are high on your priority list check some reviews first, it doesn’t look pleasant
I have been very pleased with Railway Empire. Yes, the graphics aren't the best but it really does hold up on Switch.
Nice, I just bought this game.
This just makes me want Spirit Tracks 2.
Would love a review, particularly to know if it's of the quality of Transport/Railroad Tycoon (looks more like the highly focused management of Railroad Tycoon series than the more holistic Transport?). Also would like to know if it's any good or just some mobile-quality fare (there is a lot of subpar transport management games on phone app stores!)
Really I miss Railroad Tycoon series (sorry Sid meier's Railroads, but for me, doesn't count...) but this game is very good as their spiritual successor.
And about of this DLC, very beautiful map ^•^
I really like the game, but the graphics on switch kind of put me of. I would have loved to have this one on the go, now I just hope for that switch pro to come along and this game to have been programmed to intelligently to scale to the specs of the system.
I hope you guys do a review of it! On youtube there's only reviews from its initial release and I'd like to see how well it is after the DLCs, and now that it's on switch.
I totally forgot that this had come out on Switch. I loved it on PC, although I think that it's been trumped by Transport Fever 2 - it would be nice to see that come out on Switch too. Hey NintendoLife how about a review of Railway Empire (probably the best train tycoon sim on Switch, it's gotta be better than A-Train).
