Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been confirmed as a cross-gen title for the Nintendo Switch 2.
You'll be able to play in Mouse Mode for added precision, and it's been confirmed that the game will support two graphical options on Switch 2: 4K at 60fps with HDR, or 1080p at 120fps with HDR in docked mode. Remember, if you don't have a compatible TV, the Switch 2 unit itself will support higher frame rates.
Meanwhile, in handheld, Quality Mode will be 1080p at 60fps, and Performance Mode will be 720p at 120fps.

The game will be available separately, but if you happen to purchase it on the original Switch, an upgrade purchase will be made available.
What do you make of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for the Switch 2? Will you be opting for the tasty upgrades, or stick to the game on the original Switch? Let us know.

FLIPPING CALLED IT
Well NS2 version it is then
As expected. That's a good move.
Awesome news
Did they give a release date? I honestly don't remember
Still no release date?
This game running 4k60fps is insane (even if it's most likely upscaled 4k)
Awesome news, IMO. And the specs are insane for a Switch 2 game. I wish we could get a real firm release date, unless I missed it somewhere.
Lol, no one is getting the Switch 1 version.
120 fps in portable mode is wild, loving it!
Figured as much. I gotta see how the online store allows for purchases as I will preload this game eventually.
I’m looking forward to digital foundry doing a side by side so we can really see the improvements between systems.
But still no release date!?
Still doesn't look as good as FF VII Remake/Rebirth as of yet.
Handheld mode at 120FPS?!? I am SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW
The 120fps mode was a huge surprise to me especially since you can get it in handheld mode meaning it will be identical to what you would get on a TV since that would be in 1080p too.
It looked like a solid step up. I still think it looks incresible on Switch 1, like can't believe what they squeezed out of an 8 year old tablet.
That's amazing. I can't wait to play MP4 on the Switch 2.
Alright, I'll buy the Switch 2 version. I guess this and Mario Kart will be the two launch games I grab.
This is almost literally unbelievable. My PS5 can't handle 4k60fps. I know it's not "true" 4k but still. And 120fps? I can't even picture what that would look like.
I am genuinely shocked that it can do 120fps. I hoped for 4K but never even considered it would do 120fps.
I'm not gonna buy this before Nintendo announces remastered versions of Prime 2 and 3 for the Switch. I haven't played these games on the Gamecube or Wii, so it'd be weird to jump from 1 to 4.
@OorWullie me too that’s actually insane.
Can’t wait to play this 4k at 60fps!
@N00BiSH,
I was hoping you were correct. And we now have a Switch 2 Metroid 4 with enhanced visuals.. We are officialy saved.
Yeap definitely will pick the Switch 2 version for play while also getting the Switch 1 version as a collector's item only.
I really hope it has gyro aiming.
Sorry, but I'm not set up to play games at a desk, so where exactly am I supposed to put my joycon for mouse controls?
I've tried PC gaming at my TV, and whether the mouse is beside me, on a table in front of me, or on my leg, it's not comfortable.
Anybody with couch+tv mouse setups that work want to share their secret?
In the sense that it's a "Switch 2 Edition" so luckily you can also upgrade from the Switch 1 version - the more options the better, so glad Nintendo went that way instead of just separate releases for the two systems like cross-gen games used to be!
getting it for switch 2.
@abbyhitter I will buy it on Switch 1. No plans of getting Switch 2 at this point, so I'm glad this is coming to OG Switch. Just hope it still has a steady frame rate.
Awesome news! Metroid deserves all the juice it can get. I’ll get it for the switch 2 and the mouse support will be great for this and civ 7.
Can I get 1440p 90fps please?
@Zaruboggan I think it works in conjunction with gyro meaning you shouldn't need all of the precision of a gaming mousepad or anything, just movements over your couch cushion next to your leg should be fine, at least that's how they made it seem in the Switch 2 tutorial game earlier on.
The Switch 2 version is a future cert!
Wow, those are amazing numbers! This will be a technical showcase no matter which platform.
We'll see if it will be able to maintain the 120fps though... Were we walking about DLSS?
Thankfully, not in a way that makes me regret sticking with the Switch 1 version. I won't have spare money for the new console for a while.
Expected this, though not 2 unique physical version. Will buy both versions. One to play and one for the collection shelf.
The best way to handle this. I knew it!
Avoiding the faff of choosing optimal settings was one of the things I liked about consoles
Getting everything for the switch 2 🤣
I may be alone in this, but I have very little interest in mouse mode. I can’t see a time where I would be able to sit down with a dedicated flat surface to move a joy con around on. Still interested in the other benefits of the NS2 version though!
@SpaceboyScreams Yeah that's an uncomfortable angle to play at for any length of time. Maybe I just have bad wrists.
Looks incredible! Hoping we get a release date from the Treehouse streams 🤞
@Polvasti
They are great games and in most cases I'd be doing what you said. I really don't think you have anything to worry about though.
The connective tissue between the Prime games is slim and I seriously doubt this will carry anything narrative over.
4K at 60fps with HDR docked does it for me.
On switch 2.
@Polvasti It’s possible that Prime 2 and 3 might be released as GameCube games to be added on Nintendo Switch Online.
Retro has always been the king of performance on Nintendo consoles. It's been over a decade since Tropical Freeze, so it's nice to know they still have some special sauce.
Awesome! I can get the switch 1 version, and then just pay for the upgrade whenever I actually get a switch 2. That's way better than separate releases
There was concern of this game selling poorly due to being released after Switch 2, and that might happen. But the timing could still be considered good if its coinciding with Switch 2's release is the only reason we're getting an upgrade. They likely will do upgrades for 5 million sellers and higher, which this game wasn't ever going to hit.
