even though i have both individual games i will get this collection for sure..

Genuinely curious what they do with the inside box art tho as don't they both have one separately?

The OT games are some of my favorite games I've played on the Switch generation (the sequel especially), and even though I already own both digitally, it's definitely tempting to get a physical copy for posterity. Maybe when it's on sale.

I am glad to own both physical copies as I generally dislike the boxart of physical bundles. I 100%’d the original, but the sequel remains in backlog limbo. One day… one day.

To anyone who hasn't played these yet. Octopath Traveler is a fun but pretty conceptually limited game. Octopath Traveler II is an improvement over the first in every single way and is extremely fun.
The greatest flaw of both of them is that the story (stories more like) and characters are quite shallow, but I think the combat and presentation make up for it.
Both are worth playing, but I recommend II way more than the original. And the games aren't linked in any meaningful way so you can skip straight to II if you like.

Fantastic, if the physical price is right I'll definitely get it. Lots of games are having really outstanding 2-in-1 collection nowadays: Lunar, Suikoden, Dragon Quest, Pokemon, Ori, The Prinny Collections, Final Fantasy, Patapon, Sonic, Star Wars, Legacy of Kain, Tony Hawk, Resident Evil, etc.

Great! On my backlog list and I still am all physical. Have played maybe 40 Switch games now without ever connecting my console to internet lol

Physical forever!

I absolutely loved Octopath II. I picked 4 characters and played all of their paths (Osvald, Temenos, Throné, and Agnea) to completion. Really enjoyed all of them but Agnea’s got boring towards the end. Would have played the others but eventually other games come out and they got put on the back burner.

I own both of these games already so I won’t pick this one up. For those who haven’t played this series, I strongly recommend it — at the very least try Octopath Traveler 2. I think it’s one of the finest RPGs ever made. The first one had interesting concepts, but it was too much of a slog. Everything that was wrong in the first game was remedied and bettered upon in the sequel. It’s simply chef kiss!

I didn't much care for the demo of the first game, but these sorts of releases are always fantastic to see.

I loved OT2 so much. It's easily worth $50 just for the soundtrack. Maybe someday I will go back to the first one.

I wish it comes to the West, this will be my last chance to get the first entry, as its price never went down, on the contrary, because stock strangely disappeared. Fingers crossed.

While I agree the second game offered many improvements, I actually like the first more. I felt the characters were nicer. I didn't feel particularly strong about quite a few of the cast of the second myself.

So don't discount the first game either, any newcomers!

Considering how scarce the first game was for physical this is nice. The general reaction was 1st game had the better cast/story while 2nd game refines the gameplay experience. Both are worth playing though.

@BrazillianCara same here CARA! I have never played none of them, but the OST of the first one, it was my most listened album of that year! it's good to know you think the second it's amazing (i dunno why I never gave the same attention)

The situation is annoying, where companies rely on code-in-a-box versions for western releases. Square Enix does this with Chrono Cross, FF X / X-2, and Capcom did it with Monster Hunter Stories 1.

This is a bit silly to say, but... I'm glad that there still exist regions where stable internet is not a guarantee? ... because it means fully on-cart versions will continue to exist.

And I'm super thankful for Play-Asia to allow me to get ahold of these versions. Even if it is expensive.

@Poco_Lypso But why? This equals a good discount and gives S-E a fresh release to promote. A mere discount on the separate games wouldn’t do much at this point, haven’t they gone down in price anyway?

As for the games, I haven’t played much of Pt II yet I must admit. Not because it’s not great, but these games are quite long and my spare time budget isn’t what it used to be when Pt 1 came out. Live a Live is also staring at me from the shelf.

Live A Live is a lot shorter than Octopath, so if your free time is at a premium, I'd recommend Live A Live first. it also has the benefit of being broken up into distinct chunks, which can each tell a full miniature story within the span of one play session.

@Poco_Lypso Ah ok. Well I’m not a collector but I would count an official physical bundle as “just as collectible” as the separate entries. But I hear you.

I love this. OT2 got lost in the shuffle of a packed gaming year but deserved better. And since it was the beginning of the year, it wasn't top of mind for awards. That soundtrack tho... Possibly even better than that of the first game. There's something about composers named Yasunori and hitting home runs on their first at-bat (Chrono Trigger reference).

Very nice to see! However I already own the second one physically. I need to collect the first one, especially since it went out of print a while ago, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to pay for the second one again... Shoot.

Plus, since they're saved on one cart, it could feel slightly more cumbersome to load up the cart, then pick the game you want to play every time, as opposed to simply booting up a standalone cart of either game.

For someone like myself, I'd prefer a simple reprint of the first Octopath Traveler, at Nier Automata's reduced base price.

Grabbed a digital bundle some time back for like $55 still working my way through OT 1 (50 hours, Chapter 3) but after finishing both I'll see if it's worth grabbing physical too
