Publisher Pqube and PixelHeart, alongside developer Migami Games, have revealed that their new Metroidvania Chronicles of the Wolf will be launching on Switch this Summer.
This one looks like it will appeal specifically to Castlevania fans, and seems to be taking quite a few cues from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. You've got day/night cycles, merchants, allies, and of course, lots of beasts to slay. In another nod to Castlevania, it's also been confirmed that Robert Belgrade, famous for his role as Alucard in Symphony of the Night, will be providing narration duties.
You take on the role of Mateo Lombardo, "a young apprentice destined to become the True Knight of the Rose Cross Order", as he embarks on a quest that will take him across a number of treacherous destinations. In addition, it's also been confirmed that Bloodless from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will also make a guest appearance.
Here's a look at the key features:
- Be the True Knight – Step into the boots of Mateo Lombardo and rise to greatness.
- Bloodless Joins the Fight – Guest star Bloodless from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night makes a special appearance.
- Hunt the Beast – Track and face the legendary Beast of Gévaudan in a thrilling quest.
- Conquer Brutal Bosses – Test your skills against powerful enemies promising intense battles.
- Explore Vast Castles – Discover sprawling areas packed with secrets, puzzles, and danger.
- Unlock Powerful Abilities – Gain upgrades and power-ups to forge your path to victory.
-Stunning Storytelling – Immerse yourself in illustrated cutscenes and narration by the iconic Robert Belgrade.
- Uncover Dark Secrets – Dive into a haunting tale and reveal the truth behind the Beast.

Looks 100% up my alley. I’ll be keeping tabs on this one. Always appreciate spiritual successors to the vastly underrated Simon’s Quest. Yes, I know that game is arcane and brutal, but perhaps you had to be there in the NES days to really know how special it was. I’m glad that a decent amount of devs were “there” and have brought new life to its format.
I was thinking to myself "Isn't that Bloodless?" right before they explicitly said so but anyway, looks pretty cool and if it ends up being just as good if not even better I'm definitely interested in giving it a try at some point!
Castlevania 2 is actually my favorite of the 3 NES titles. It is the only one I could actually beat as a kid. It is a game that is way too cryptic for it's own good
My primary opinion is that the design of Schmimon Schmelmont there is really making me think of House in Fata Morgana for some reason.
Sorry but, i dont know if its just the video is not that great, but it looks quite janky to me
Could be a metroidvania too far for me. The way that main character minces around as they walk does not meet my minimum standards of animation. Unless the game really plays on the theme of the character being really camp in other ways to match, it's just plain bad and signals to me that the developers and I will not see eye to eye on things.
Nice to see Migami games making more stuff after Wallachia: Reign of Dracula.
Trailer's pretty nice and I look forward to trying this one.
This is actually the second Bloodstained cross-over they've had. Wallachia had a Miriam skin for the main character.
Oh and of course Robert Belgrade's back for voice work, dude loves playing Alucard and Alucard fascimiles at any opportunity.
The game is made Mig Perez and he is known for making Castlevania fan games. As far as I know he is drawing and coding the game on his own!
I can't wait to get it!
This looks so good!
This is the pixel art style I like.
Say… aren’t we already getting a Castlevania 2-like: That Simon Quest game? Both of them look phenomenal on their own way.
@ChromaticDracula
Do you mean The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest? I'm looking to that one, too!
Kid: Mum can we have Castlevania?
Mum: We have Castlevania at home
Castlevania at home -> Chronicles of the Wolf
Well, it does look pretty good. Guy walks like a Belmont, for sure lol. I don’t know, I’m reaching saturation overload on metroidvainias but I’ll keep an eye on this one.
Definitely an over saturated sub-genre, but this one actually looks good to me.
I like it, it's got the chops, it looks the part, it's got retro charm and Robert Belgrade, to boot...
...but why is it called "Chronicles of the Wolf"... when you aren't playing as that werewolf?
Yes, my furry bias is showing, what of it? lol
I don't like the way sprites are animated here. Sort of not smooth enough.
@RupeeClock that’s the one! I know NintendoLife covered it once or twice but the dev(s) are posting lots of progress on Bluesky so I’ve been following it. I can’t wait for that one!
Looks very promising.

Looks interesting. I sure hope it isn't flubbed with a ton of unnecessary dialogue or handholding or map bloat or uninspired level design or ridiculous boss battles. It's batty how low the standards have fallen for a good concise Metroidvania.

@B3RTAY I did not get to see your first post but are you saying to not cover this game because it looks unappealing to you?
@Zuljaras the article was posted very soon after the trailer went up and it felt to me like lazy/dubious journalism to cover a game that seems middling/wonky just because they (most likely) got a press email
Hey…maybe it’s going to be a cracker and it’s the exact type of game I want to see touted on gaming sites. I love castlevania and would happily be proven wrong.
"I'm interested in this."
@B3RTAY I do not know how many of Migami other games have you played.
The 2 most recent Castlevania fan games Lecarde Chronicles and Lecarde Chronicles 2 have the same graphics but the animations here are better.
The art style is almost like a photograph that was edited with pixel art software. I really like it.
Also, his last game was published on the Switch as well, Wallachia: Reign of Dracula. It has identical graphical style as well.
As a huge Castlevania fan myself this will be a banger!
@-wc- "Hee hee, Thank you!"
The shoulder joint of the character sprite is going full Earnest Evans. Should calm that down a tad..
Well here's another Metroidvania on the list of Metroidvania games I had to complete.
I admit I groaned when I read another Metroidvania but this looks very special to me. It looks every bit as good as a castlevania so far and it has a good team behind it so I will keep this one in my sights.
That game looks like this other game Wallachia, which also had "cameo-ing" of Bloodstained. I love games inspired by Castlevania, but I'm starting to tire of them and their Metroidvania vibe.
While I'm not a fan of the stiff (original) Nintendo era animations, the rest of the game looks great.
I'm glad to see it's a new Metroidvania closer to the classis style and not the souls influenced or roguelite/like styles that have become so popular these days.
looks again and notices the subheading
56709!!!
@B3RTAY Do you understand how incredibly basic what you just said is? Do you know what PR is? It would have been irresponsible of the game's publisher to not at least tell video games sites that their video game exists.
@TYRANACLES These games are never as good as Castlevania, but I guess Migami is a one-man studio, so there you go.
“Wallachia” looked the part also, but it’s level design and control felt amateurish, and honestly it played more like “Rolling Thunder”
@rvcolem1 i still remember kneeling at the waters edge and that area finally opening up. blew my mind
Haha again?
Bloodless has become such an iconic Bloodstained character. I think they've found their appealing returning iconic baddy. They will undoubtedly end up doing a Bloodstained spin off where you get to play as her.
@Zuljaras yeah the Wallachia one has been on my radar a while. I judged it harshly in that case.
@LikelySatan Sometimes you can say something basic and it be absolutely correct, friend.
If you read carefully, my beef (which has since subsided) was not with companies sending PR emails, but with journalists just regurgitating said emails for a quick story.
YES. I'd wishlist it on Dekudeals if it were available to do so. This is absolutely my jam.
@somnambulance Simon's Quest is criminally underrated.
