Thatgamecompany's Journey has received a lot of love since its release on PS3 last March.
The game's own epic journey saw it grow from humble PSN sleeper to assailing many "Game Of The Year" lists, not to mention the eight BAFTA nominations (for Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Best Game, Game Design, Game Innovation, Online-Multiplayer, Original Music and Story) and a Grammy nod for best score soundtrack for visual media.
This was all achieved despite the studio going bankrupt during development – a problem partly due to its limiting exclusivity on PlayStation 3.
Now the team behind Cloud, Flow and Flower is hoping to build on Journey's success in their next game, and they could be looking to achieve this on the Wii U.
In light of past financial difficulties and not ignoring the potential for a wider audience and return, Journey's creator and thatgamecompany co-founder Jenova Chen commented:
I think to have a financial success, that is going to change everyone, it has to be much bigger than a game on the PlayStation platform.
The new game is currently in development and will be multi-platform. It's exciting to imagine how thatgamecompany could make use of the Wii U GamePad.
Chen has also eluded to building the new game around a sense of connection and community, stating;
Journey was focused on connection...I think we are trying to do one level above that with this game.
How this emphasis could make use of Miiverse and StreetPass is an enticing prospect to any Wii U and 3DS owner. However, with nothing yet revealed, we'll just have to cross our collective fingers and hope.
How do you think a game from thatgamecompany would play on Nintendo hardware? Are you excited by the news? Leave a comment to let us know.

Sooooo, he never specifically mentioned the Wii U?
I loved Journey and can't wait to see what they do next. If expect it will come out on everything, consoles, IOS and PC, but wouldn't hold much hope for too much focus on the game pad. They've just said they want to put their games on more platforms so won't put too much effort into a feature they can only include on a couple of the formats.
@Bankai No he didnt specifically mention it but downloadable titles dont do well in the Xbox market so if its going to multiplatform of course it will end up on the Wii U
@RikuzeYre
Due to it releasing on "multiple platforms" doesn't mean it's coming to Nintendo's eShop.
Anywho, yay, I guess.
Just played Journey for the first time recently! It's absolutely wonderful and totally magical. One of the very few games I can actually call a perfect game.
Downloadable titles don't do well on the Xbox Marketplace?
Since when?
Also, it would be nice to have the original source so we can see the quote in context, but whatever.
@Bankai He hasn't mentioned any platform, as yet.
@Damo Thanks for the clarification, Damo. Appreciated
Wasn't sure if I had just missed something there.
I'm glad to see that the team is going multiplatform. Journey and Flower are absolutely amazing games and I have no doubt that whatever next Jenova Chen is cooking up will be incredible once again.
So his contract with Sony bankrupted his company? Someone effed up big time then.
@RikuzeYre Not necessarily. It could wind up on mobile devices and PC. Multi-platform does not mean all platforms, just more than one platform.
Nintendo should give them money for this yesterday. DO IT NINTENDO.
Seriously, I have had so much respect for this company since seeing a playthrough of Journey, and I'd love to actually play one of their games.
I don't suppose they could ever bring their previous titles onto Nintendo platforms, Journey is currently the main reason I want a PS3 XD
Just played Journey on a friends ps3. The most boring game I've played the last 30 years . Really, nothing happened. I almost fell asleep. Clearly the most overrated game ever.
I wasted a purchase on Journey. Completely horrible and I usually enjoy games that don't fit to the common mold. Complete crap.
It was never a "sleeper hit". It was the fastest selling PSN game.
I didn't know they went multiplatform! They surely are welcome!
@Bliquid Ah the joys of rereading my comment. Note how I never mentioned that it was Sony's fault.
Also, it's rarely smart to assume.
I got the Journey Collection, and both Flower and Journey are short, sweet and amazing games. It is very sad to hear the team went bankrupt, as they have tons of talent.
Their games being peaceful and family friendly would be a great match for Nintendo.
I hope it will, and seeing how friendly the Wii U eShop is to indies, he shouldn't have a problem bringing his next game to Nintendo. (He was indie at the start.)
Anyway, this is what I've been hoping for. thatgamecompanysnextgameonwiiu!!!
I am certainly looking forward to this one!
